Yes, laser-sighted infrared pyrometer. And yes, ambient air temperature is not really measurable... nor temperatures at speed. But after a cooldown lap, I can hop out and measure most any surface. However, I didn't get my work done today, so I won't be able to play tomorrow (and the track is occupied this weekend). Sooo, it'll be next week.

I think the actual airbox lids would be a good place to start. I realize that there will be local hot spots near exhaust components and the like, but it seems that there aren't any major radiant heat sources right next to the airboxes, right? Ambient air temp inside the compartment would be nice to know, too, but maybe hard to measure. Do you have a laser pyrometer? Thanks for your assistance, Brian, I'm eagerly awaiting your findings. -Chris |

Well, I am sure its less than 200'F at the airbox... but not sure how much less. Fairly close to the airbox are the steel-braided oil cooler lines... those are at 210-240'F. There are other spots in the engine compartment that are at 540'F or so. Tell me exactly what you'd like me to measure and I'll measure it the next time I go to the track. Maybe tomorrow... haven't decided yet.

one million dollars just kidding - actually, I don't know yet - it depends on what type of resin system we use, and a few other unresolved factors. |

Does anyone know how hot the engine compartment of the 360 Modena/spider gets under hard use? Specifically, the airbox area. We're going to make carbon fiber airbox lids and I'm deciding which resin system to use, as different ones have different service temperatures. Also, similar info on the 348 and 355 would be helpful, as these are in the works, too. |
