Right on Bill,

You should add .3 to the clutch housing and the rest in the filler hole above the pan.

OR

Put. 4.3 in the clutch housing and the rest spills into the transpan.

It appears to me that the only way you can overfill is to add to the clutch housing filler hole. Is that correct?

Dom,

Has long has your pan was level and fluid came out, that means it was overfilled. You are not missing something.

Overfilling can cause difficulty shifting due to the box not being allowed to breath. I have a vent hose on my to allow it to breath better.

My car is in the shop now and the leak you have is getting fixed now. Mine was not over filled and I had a vent hose so "I" think they are not related but I could be wrong. It could just be a coincidence.

Also, I will be in Irvine next sunday if you want me to stop by

My 308 GT4 has been leaking gear oil from the clutch housing area since I got it in Feb. The leak appears to be only a drop or two per day.

Today I decided to check the oil level and replenish. I bought a gallon of Swepco 201 (this is what was put in by the mechanic), jacked the car up on four jackstands, removed the shield covering the gearbox filler plug, and was ready to go. I also used a level to ensure that the bottom of the gearbox was level while the car was jacked up.

Well, when I unscrewed the plug located on the side of the gearbox, about 1/2 cup (maybe more?) of gear oil dripped out!!! This indicates to me that the gearbox was overfilled. Am I missing something???

As far as I can tell, the level is now correct, since the oil is only supposed to be at the level of the plug. Could the overfilling have been the cause of my leaking? I will observe the car daily to see if any more oil is leaking. This is strange.

Is there any reason why the gearbox was overfilled? Is this bad for the car?

Dom
