If you doubt the readings, change the sending unit. Unfortunately with me, I broke mine when removing it. I called up Dennis McCann Parts and they had the correct Veglia unit for $10. At that price, it would be worth it to change it irregardless. |

Kelly, I don't think you are getting a true reading from the side of the tank. With the engine running and up to normal operating temp. you should be able to remove the cap, slowly, and put the thermometer stick into the coolant and get a true coolant reading. |

When I changed my hoses on my 1980 308 GTSi, I was given the advice that I should have changed the temp sensor on the T bar under the intake manafold. Well I didnot. On the first trip out I noticed my temp gauge sort of swinging for 160 to 195. Now even after the car is warmed up it never goes over 165. Over the weekend I tested this by taking a drive and when It was good and warm (OIL temp was 200), I put a stick thermometer on the expasnion tank. it read 165. Should I take it that maybe I have an open thermostat, so the engine is never getting over 165 now instead of the old days when it was always around 195 to 200. Or should I put the thermometer on a defferent part of the motor for a more true reading. Or do you think I have a bad thermal senors. All commects welcome and appericated. Thanks |
