Barney G. -- I'm not sure that they carry every Bosch part, but, for example, try searching on the Bosch PN "0450905601" (which is the TR fuel filter F PN 117792) -- you should get a pic & price. My email is [email protected] (at least until Comcast takes over). |

Hi Steve M! I looked at the site you posted, but didn't see Ferrari parts. I tried some Bosch numbers and didnt get anything either. Am I doing something wrong there? Also, I have a question about my ignition. May I e-mail you privately? Thanks Barney |

I guess I was confused with the other Steve's comment about "reseting it when I install" it in the car. I lossened the little set nut and let it retract fully before reinsrtalling the unit... was that resetting it. Either way a new one is on the way and I'll go from there... thanks

Scott -- There's nothing to "reset" electrically on K (or KE) systems -- i.e., no active "smarts" (which is a good thing IMO ). |

Thanks guys, Here is an update. After I cleaned it and it seemed to move freely I reinstalled it using a straight pice of rubber hose that when installed was slightly kinked (crimped off). The car ran well and I thought the problem was solved except for finding a molded (bent) hose. I then found a pre-bent piece of hose like the original and installed that... the idle raced back up because it had no restriction on the air flow =( So for right now I've got the hose in that is crimped when bent and the car runs fine (the bend restricts the air flow slightly). We took it for a drive last night and all was well. I know it's not how it should be but it works for now until I can order a new AAV. I did not "reset" anything... I'm assuming that by disconecting the battery the ecu will reset itself so I might try that as well. It's just so frustrating working on these things sometimes. No one here in northern WI has parts easily accessable or knows much about these cars. And with the driving season only like 4 months you burn a lot of valuable time doing repairs on little stuff like this. Thank you so much for all your help and advice. |

The part number is 115223. I think I checked all the usual places and they were the least expensive. |

I think the K/KE auxillary air valve should close fairly well. It might be working OKish with it manually blocked, but, as a system when cold, the K-Jet warm-up regulator will still be causing the fuel metering unit to supply extra fuel (some to add richness since cold and some to account for the extra air it assumes will be entering the intake tract via the auxillary air valve) so you'll be increasing the richness of the already rich cold running condition. If it's a Bosch component source it by the 10 digit Bosch PN at www.importeccatalog.com (or tell us where you got a better price!) |

Scott this valve usually works all of the time. Its purpose is to control idle speed based on different factors. These may be water temp, AC on , ox sensor readings , throttle opening and others. The throttle is factory set with a min opening to give you idle at about 500rpm warm. The throttle position sensor is then set.The cpu adjusts the idle speed through the AAV by opening and closing it to the preset firmware speed. To defeat it you need to adjust the throttle opening and TPS and set the idle to 1000rpm. It will work but you would have some drivability problems beside cold start issues. You did the right thing here because they gum up and all you need to do is clean them. You should reset it when you install it so it will adjust itself when you start the car. |

Scott, The valve is not for cold start, it is for cold idle. Without it, you may have some drivability issues until the car warms up (hesitation). If it is broken, get a new one, they shouldn't be terribly expensive. I paid around $120 for my VW and Nissan, so the Ferrari one couldn't be more than double that... :-) I'm sure there must be a cross-reference to some other car... |

I think I just solved my high idle problem (80 Gtsi). I took out the aux air valve, sprayed it with lube, worked it around a little until it seemed to move more freely. My questions are somewhat related: 1. Does the little valve ever close completely off? 2. When I did that little test... pinch off the hose from the aux air valve to the intake plenum (to see if the valve was sticking), the idle came right back down. Anyway, my question is if I can pinch off the hose and the car idles fine why can't I simply eliminate the aux air valve completely? I know it's purpose is to aid with cold start up but is it really necessary? For right now I've seemed to fix the problem but was just curious for future reference. P.S. Thank you David H. for the link to auto-solve.com, it really helped in figuing out my problem. Thanks, Scott |
