The 30k done at the dealer will be between 5 and 10k, depending on what they find wrong with the 355. Expect at least 7k for that service and repair. Examples of what they replace: cam seals (about 500, including labor, 1500 water pump, including labor, etc.)

Hi steve,
I can answer a couple of your questions being a 355 owner and having done some of the work myself and a lot of reasearch regarding your questions.

1. Yes

2. Yes it is possible if you remove the gas tank, the drawback with this scenario is it easier to do a lot of the Recommended Services such as inspections, torqueing cam journals, heads, replacing seals etc... with the engine out of the car and it is not hard to remove engine, just takes time.

3.I bought my car with about 23k on the clock and the throw out bearing failed the first weekend after 2 track days, when we disassembeled the clutch the Clutch plate was about worn out as well. I would educatedly Guesstimate 25K miles for the clutch.
Total Parts cost for repair was $1597.21 ($862.57 for Clutch plate and Pressure plate) and ($734.64 for the T/O Bearing) these are retail prices from the Auto Gallery an Authorized Ferrari Dealer. I did not have time to screw around with it but you can Knock 20% of the price if you purchase through lets say through a friend at an automotive shop.

Hope this Helps.

I've done a little research on this site and over the web about DIY maintenance on my dream Ferraris. There is plenty of info online about 308's and 328's, but very little on 355's. I've pretty much decided that on a vehicle out of warranty I would like to do as much maintenance myself as possible.

I'm aware of the procedures called out for the 15k and 30k on the 355 or 550, but my questions are the following:

1) Should the tensioner bearings and water pump be replaced with the belts as with the 3X8?

2) Is it possible to remove above items with the engine in the car, or does it have to be pulled (hence the typical "dealer only" service procedures)?

3) The clutch. What is expected life for 6sp with normal (non-abuse) driving? When it comes time to replace what do the parts cost for the entire job?

4) From looking online at the prices of typical wear items for the 355 and 550, most items seem in line with other Ferrari parts (brake pads, filters, etc). Are there any high-failure parts that are unique to either of these cars?

5) What would be the typical price for the parts (no labor) to perform the 15K and 30K service for the 355 and 550?

Thanks in advance for your responses.
