David F,
You win the whatever!!!
That's the thread i was thinking of. It has the aftermarket red extenders that meas ~2K Ohms.

Looks like you beat David H. by over 6 hours!

Just for kicks I pulled the rear plug towers from my 308 4v motor and checked them..
1890 Ohm
2000
2740
3240

the fronts were
2100
2400
2000
2180

also had one old black one--it was .45 Ohm

Guess it is time for a new set

I just posted to that thread, the resolution to my static problems on the AM radio was to replace the antenna. My stock, factory antenna was stuck in the extended position, when replaced, all the static issues on the AM radio went away.

Verell,

I believe this is the thread you're thinking of: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/256120/134699.html

...and David, as much as I'd like to post an inteligent answer, I'm at a loss for words (a first for me, no less...Sorry)

David

David,
in my previous 78 308 GTS (carb) it had black non-resistor extenders and standard plugs and I DID have mucho interference on both the AM radio and my FRS radio. I swapped to resistor plugs and no more problems.

Now on the 328, the extenders are non-resistor (red factory) AND the plugs are NGK non resistor EVX platinum, and surprise, no problems on AM radio or FRS radio...strange. But then the rest of the ignition system on a 328 is WAY different as well.d

Well...David, you got me stumped on that scenario. How about: Non-resistor plugs + non-resistor extender = Noisey radio?

Verell, the mini plug extenders on the BB are typically 5K ohms (non-resistor plugs)...

David,
Not so sure it is that simple. The plugs for the 328 are not spec'd as resistor, AND the extenders do not have any resistance either. Hmmmmm. :-)

Awwww, Geeeee, You went & took all the fun out of the debate... ;}

OK guys, this is a test:
Who can find the thread that says how much resistance there should be in a resistor extender?

Having been down this road before...I believe it to be very simple (modest, eh?) to determine the extender type (not color..as they may have changed through the years...)

Resistor plugs: No resistance in extender
Non-resistor plug: Resistance in the extender

Just my thoughts...

Hmm,
We kicked this one around a couple of times,
You're probably right, the most recent was probably more like a year ago. I'm too lazy to search the archives to check on it.

Ah yes Verell, has it been that long? Seemed less than a year ago, since I just got my 328 when the discussion started, or did someone post the link from that discussion to the previous one? I don't know, but great fun... :-)

Most I can say is that my '82 Euro 308 GTS QV came with red extenders w/internal resistors.

When I asked about them on the FerrariList about 3 years ago, I was told that the Euro QVs came with them.

I disassembled 1 & posted photos in the F*Chat Tech Q&A & we had a merry long discussion.

Since I didn't get service records w/my car I can't prove they're original, but so far everything else has been.

I'm sorry, but I'd forgotten that we also decided that the 328 extenders did NOT have resistors.

The original extenders in my 78 308 were a kind of tan color, maybe a faded original red or orange. I replaced them with black ones from T.Rutlands.

I've worked on more than a few early Euro 308s, and all had black extenders. I don't even remember seeing red ones until the 328s showed up. Oh.. and they were 0 resistance. For whatever it's worth.

The stock factory red extenders in my 328 had no resistance...

YES, the extenders can and do wear out and will crack and have holes burned through them. The early 75-79 extenders were known to be weak, and were usually upgraded during a major service according to my mechanic.

Black = no internal resistance
OEM Red = internal resistance
Aftermarket Red = ??? (I recently bought some new aftermarket red extenders that read 0 Ohms.)

328s and some Euro cars came with the red ones, the US Spec 308s all have black ones.

I am getting a few different answers and would like to know which is right. 77 308 GTB and I have the dark red spark plug extenders. What color extenders (some say red and some say black)were used on the 77 and are they resistance type or not. If so what is the ohm value they should be at. And last who has the best price and what is it $.
