Perhaps one weekend soon in July? i could do it myself, seems straightforward, yet NEVER one to pass up a fun drive to your place :-) In fact JUST went out for a late night fun-fest :-) Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Steve M, Ok, i'll avoid saying it's not the size of the Socket Driver but how you use it. DAMN! you got me! LOL Philip, thanks my friend, yet ordered one from the bicycle place. Total cost $15 or so. Verell assisted with my previous oil change and i KNOW the tightness. From now on it is all me alone as Verell kindly shared his wisdoms with me. Seems i am putting on 3k miles every 2.5 months. Ahhh, but those are fun miles :-) Now on to fix the passenger side headlight motor diode... Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

Steve, I'm glad you got your part....Snap On's Website SUCKS!!! Too bad a person couldn't help you out......I was lucky enough to get a guy who knew his stuff.....I ordered my 11mm from them about 1 month ago, so I know they sell them.....But at least you got one in the end.....Kudos to Mike C. When I get home, I can check my paper work and give you the part number for the Snap On one....kind of late now though............ |

In my view, oil drain plugs shouldn't be put in tight enough that you'd have any trouble with stripping with 7/16. But no telling how tight the plug is in Steven's car at this point. Things happen. Even though I never tighten them down strongly, heat cycles sometimed stick those suckers. I had one stuck in a Fiat Dino once that would not come out no matter what. Because of its location, you couldn't use a socket (crossmember was there) but had to go at it with an open end wrench. The plug was made of brass or something else wimpy and the wrench just wanted to round it off. I had to change the oil through the oil temp sendor a few times and jack the car up oddly so it became the low point. The new owner reports that they got it out finally (I'm sure by putting the car on a lift they could try all sort of tricks more easily - heat, etc.) I guess you have found the 11mm socket now anyway, but I wonder if you can get a replacement oil sump plug with the same thread size and pitch but with either a 10 or 12mm hex? |

Glad you got it sorted out Steve, but... (Note: please avoid temptation to post teenage humor regarding the following ) I can't really see why a 7/16" hex bit/wrench would be more likely to strip an 11 mm female hex socket. Isn't it just a few thousandths larger (not smaller)? If the depth of engagement was decent, why not? -- JMO. |

Here you go... http://shop.airbomb.com/site/intro.cfm?PageID=37&SKU=TL7492 or http://mdmetric.com/bondhus/catalogdetailcfm11.html or try your local bicycle shop, as they're apparently common for hub removal.

Philip and All, MANY thanks. Will call Snap On. ADDED: JUST called Snap On, no go from either consumer or industrial sector of Snap On :-( . They sent me to some German company (800) 525-2943... ADDED... they do not have a male 11mm. SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!!!!!!!!! Unobtanium!!! Seems like an 11mm is perfect for my EURO and maybe THAT is partly the difference... as the car here is one of the VERY LAST 308QV built so maybe it shares something with another model? Of course far be it from Ferrari to use whatever part is on hand at the time and thereby make my car a tad bit non-standard ;-) PHILIP: You got a part number for that 11mm from Snap On??? Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

I wouldn't do that Barry....with aluminum the 7/16's will strip it prematurely.......... |

It's 10mm for the trans drain plug, 12mm for the rear fill plug and 12mm for the engine oil drain ( 79 308 ) |

Steve, my 308 also used a 10...(U.S.model) but my 348 uses an 11mm .....Go to Snap On's website...very difficult to navigate...really.....difficult. But if you call the 800 number on their website, you can get in touch with a real live person that is very knowledgable and will help you find what you need. I just got an 11 mm hex head, ratchet drive from them......29 dollars!! Craftsmen doesn't make the 11mm.......... |

The 10mm should be correct. That is what I used to change the oil in my 308. If the wrench is loose, you may need a new plug nut. |

Hi, The Euro 1985 308GTS QV has a 12mm for tranny, but it appears to be a 11mm for oil. Tried a 10mm and it would work, if a bit loose so... Have looked and looked and can not locate an 11mm in either "L" or socket. No Sears, No Snap On, etc etc. Help??? Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin
