321 was developed specifically for airplane headers, but it costs about 4 times as much as 304. A good site for information is http://www.burnsstainless.com/ |

A magnet will not stick to series 300 stainless but will stick readily to 400 series stainless. |

Thanks I've been told a 308 uses Type 308 stainless but that Types 321 and 309 would be good choices as they resist high temps especially the 309, still not sure what was OE there now. Mike |

304 is most commonly used. Brittle after aging, but weldable. Could be 321, also reparable. |

Are their any mechanics who know what the OE SS used in the header pipes for a US 1998 355 F1? Also any one in the US that rebuilds them and about how much $ ? TIA Dr Mike |
