Bruce, I had an idea. Wherever those wires from the mystery switch end up, they have to pass down through the A pillar to either the left or the right side of your dash. If you remove the speaker panels on either side, you can easily see them and be able to trace the wires once you identify them. The speaker panels should have one screw securing them at the forward/lower foot well. You might have to peel the glued carpet back to expose them and you will not have to remove the foot rest on the drivers side. On the door side, there should be two, an upper and lower that are right next to the door weather seal. Once the screw are out, pull the bottom of the panel outward and it will come out but be careful of the speaker wires attached to the cross-over panel. I have had the speaker panels off several times and for example, the wire harness for the side view mirrors are visible/accessible as well as the harnesses leading up to the upper center console switches and lights. From there you should be able to trace them onwards. It is worth a shot if you have not tried it yet. Let us know. Joe

I had the same problem - there's a mystery switch on the console of my 308, same as the factory switches. Haven't figured out what it was for yet. |

hi joe i put a multimeter on it with the engine on and off and wasnt reading anything .ooo, called the 2nd owner and he knew nothing about it, the first owner died... maybe it was a button for a car alarm, or some other option that he took off or disconnected..but the amazing part is that switch was the exact style as the 2 other light switches, like it came right out of the factory.. so im not going to loose sleep about it thanks to all for your help......... |

Bruce, Did you figure it out? I have a Euro TR and the upper console has two switches with a blank in the center. The left switch is for the rear fog lamps (turns on your brake lights). The right switch is for the rear window defroster. It sounds like the previous owner added it for something. Can you make contact with them? I am sure you would have tried that already but I thought I would mention it. Take care, Joe

If you car has an aftermarket alarm or power door locks then the button can be for the programming controls. The aftermarket door locks I just installed on my car has this. I am serious this time. |

P.S. You have to have all three switches on for the brighter safety lights to work if you have that option. |

Bruce, Wish I had a answer for you. I have seen some cars, imports like my wifes Jag. that does have a switch, a option, for a brighter light in the rear which is red and is located in brake light area. This is extra protection in foggy conditions. Check it out with the key on the switch on and the headlights on to see if the tail lights are much brighter. Who knows since the switch is red. Just a thought. |

its a different size than the 2 light buttons, but doesnt look like a aftermarket switch.tomorrow when i have time, im going to take a volt meter to see if there is any juice to it,if theres not ,im not going to worry about it,my friend told me in t.r s,euro models that the switch im refering to was for back fog lights....im still scratching my head, but thanks for your interest... bruce |

bruce -- no idea here. I just went to the garage, and there's nothing but smooth plastic between the map light switch and the florescent light switch on mine. Are you saying that it exactly matches the recessed light switches? (i.e. the console has a molded radius around the switch and the top of the switch button is flush with the console?) |

I think Ed was just joking, I think we should all calm down a bit. I for one found it funny. It's not like it ruined the thread or anything, if someone knows they're not going to decide not to answer this post because of Ed's little joke. |

What ever you do, do not push this button. If you do you will activate the right side ejector seat and the entire right side roof panel will seperate and the passenger seat will eject. You're joking! I never joke about my job 007. |
