Steve - The previous post was May 31,2003 "downshiting problems"

Regarding the battery issue. Would the outside temp or the car temp ever have any impact on the electrical performance?

Marc -- the link that you posted somehow isn't working for me -- what was the title of the previous thread? Not sure that I'd call 750 RPM a proper warm idle level for a TR (should be 1000 +/- 100 RPM).
Your electrical "blackout" (if absolutely complete) IMO would initially warrant checking/cleaning/reseating the primary battery connections -- both on the negative side ("-" post-to-switch-to-chassis) and on the positive side ("+" post-to-fusepanel).

Per Steve Magnusson's suggestion I was finally able to test the problem posted in www.ferrarichat.com/discuss/messages/112/257830.html?1054575729. (89 Tr would die at traffic light when downshifting)

When the car was warmed up and stationary, I brought the engine up to 3k RPM and then released the accelarator. The RPM's dropped to 500 - hesitated a brief second and then returned to 750, which is the level that it idles. I also monitored it during my drive. On any approach to an intersection (while downshifting) it would go through the same steps.

Although the car never died during the downshifting. The car died once while pulling to a stop in a turning lane. I am sure that this is related to the above problem, but let me give you some more details. I had driven for 1.5 hours, the last 5 miles had been stop and go traffic. Outside temps in Bakersfield are suppose to hit 100 - 105. I had the AC on as well as the radio. The water temp was 195 and the oil temp was 210. The car completely died and I could not get the battery (6 months old) to budge anything electrical. A nice gentlemen helped me push it out of the turning lane. (while we were pushing it I could hear the fans come on) 2 minutes later the car started without a problem. I drove the remaining 8 miles home without the AC or radio on so as to avoid any electrical drains. I didnt experience any further problems.

I have an appointment in two weeks to take the car into the shop, what direction should I focus the mechanics attention on given my recent experiences. (For the moment my mechanical skills are limited, but I am planning developing my skills)
Thanks
