I'll add my 2 cents worth, the red mark is where the speedometer starts halucinating and showing speeds that are at least 5 to 10% incorrect....lol |

I believe the mark indicates recommended maximum speed in first gear. My BMW 850i has the mark at 55 MPH (2.94 diff ratio). My 308 has it a little over 30 MPH, and a VW bug (1300) has it at 15 MPH. |

Thanks, Andrew. Domestic US cars don't have a 30 MPH mark. I do remember seeing a 55 MPH marker on my father's speedometer years ago when he had a domestic car, an orange hashmark between 50 and 60 where the numerals were white on black. Barry |

It is the 50kph mark, you guys in the US may not drive frequently to countries where its KPH but we do, most uk speedometers have some sort of mark at 50kph if there isnt a KPH shadow printed on the dial |

The concensus of opinion at the open house/tech session at Classic Coach last year when I brought up the question of the red mark was that it was indeed a reminder for the in-town speed limit, as Russ mentioned. We looked at the speedometers of the other 308s there that day and found that the red marker was only present on the carburetted 308s. |

My oil pressure does the same as yours, Matt. I use Agip 10/40 Sint 2000 with a UFI filter. My technician at Classic Coach tells me that this is nothing to be concerned with. After my oil is up to temperature, I get a similar reading as yours at highway speeds, a bit under 85. Barry |

Mike, it differs. Right after an oil change it is rock steady just a tick under 85. Even at idle. After a 100 miles or so, it rises and falls with engine speed even though there is no consumption. It's a bizarre ferrari thing. |

I've always had this strange theory that the red mark is the lowest speed you want to be in in TOP (5th) gear... Just something I've though of before. Matt, I'm curious about your oil pressure. I, too, have replaced the oil pressure sender, and it always reads low now--sometimes very low... This is your behavior as well?

Clever Italian mechanic started to put the Italian flag on the speedo but got caught before he could finish the green stripe. |

I will confirm that many European cars have a mark at around 50 Kph or about 30mph as a tell-tale to remind folks about the standard European in-town speed limit. h |

I am actually interested in the mark....really. I can image, actually I can, Ferrari mass producing a speedo with an indicated speed limit for a limited market.

The speedo is marked in MPH not KPH, KPH is not even shadowed so it doesn't relate in any way to 50 KPH. 30MPH is a common built up area speed limit in UK (Although in modern times 20mph is becoming increasingly common with traffic calming measures)

I believe it corresponds to 50 kph which is a common "city" speed limit in Europe. Of couse you would never exceed that speed would you, well-l-l-l, maybe you would! |

I think that means "Don't drive any slower than this or what's the point of having a Ferrari?" ;-) Jonathan |
