Alex, It sounds like a old type pressure switch to me. I would remove it and try cleaning it out with compressed air. Some of the fluid could have congealed in the hole. Temporarily I would plug the hole where you remove it so the fluid doesn't run out and get air in the system. |

I am having an intermittent problem with brake (stop) lights on an 87 Mondial. I have traced it to the contact switch on the tip of the master cylinder. I have had to UNSCREW the switch (1 turn) to restore functionality, but the problem has reappeared less than 100 miles later. I know I am not that hard on brakes to get that much wear! A few questions: (1) Is unscrewing to compensate for brake pad wear normal, or should it be accounted for in the travel of the switch? (2) Also, does the switch unscrew off completely or is there an internal retainer? Mine builds up resistance after a few turns, and I don't want to risk damaging it. (3) Anyone else experience the problem? If so how did you fix it? Any help or hints would be appreciated. Thanks. Alex |
