Jeff, I checked your site. The caps you have but the rotors you do not. The rotors have been a subject of discussion on this site. I have just learned from a reliable source the Marelli is making the rotors again. They made a batch but were wrong and were sent back for repair or remake. Allegedly, they will be ready in a few weeks .... for big money. What is your knowledge with the 80-82 injected rotors? |

Barney - there should be no arcing. Any arcing is abnormal. |

Thanks to everyone for your help. Jeff, I removed the caps. There is arcing on the caps but I am not sure how much is considered normal. Can Malcolm describe what to look for? I am back to work on it this weekend. |

Hi all. This from our technical guru, Malcolm... 1) As it's related to one bank it's unlikely to be the fuel pump, but by checking the fuel pressure delivered to the metering head it will eliminate the pump - a full pressure check may be required, but would require someone with the necessary Bosch test equipment. 2) More than likely electrical, need to check all electrics related to the ignition circuit - especially the block connectors in and around the engine bay. 3) Have a good look inside the distributor caps for arcing / oil contamination etc. 3) Try swapping the digiplexes over, if the problem is transfered to the other bank that's your problem - also try swapping over the flywheel sensors.

I had the same problem, turned out to be the connector to one of the digiplexes had worked loose (the clip holding it in place is a piece of junk). as Mark said, make sure the connector is held tight before going on to some of the more drastic stuff! |

I believe there are 2 sensors, 1 for each bank but you will see 3 (one is for tach). Termo switch is on collant tank and can be 'bridged' by shorting the leads together. I think I would closely inspect fuse box first. Also might want to check the digiplex boxes in the trunk, left side under the carpet, make sure you have good connections and vacuum hoses are intact. |

Thanks Mark and Greg. OK . Located the thermo time switch. Not sure how exactly to test it. Unplugged the car runs the same. The book says it is connected to the block but it is actually connected to the coolant tank, unless I am in the wroing place. How many flywheel sensors sre there? I found the wires and plugs going to 2 flywheel sensors. How do I check these? |

Check your flywheel sensors too. |

My 82 had similar issues but not to the extent that it stalled; turned out to be combo of fuse block intermitantly shorting and a bad thermo-time switch witch was not cutting off warmup regulator, resulting in fuel delivery problems and backfiring. |

Driving 81 308 all day no problem. Car starts backfiring out of the drivers side exhaust pipe and then a loss of power. Engine starts running rough and I am able to roll into a parking spot. Oil and water temp seem normal. Finally stalls. Try to restart, and it starts up fine for about 3-5 seconds then the same thing. Loud popping, no power at all now. My father suggests fuel pump. I checked wires/plugs and they look OK. I did check the archives and came up with 3500 results about other things. Tried different key words with no luck. Thanks in advance. |
