Hayden also makes an adjustable fan controller. One can set the temperature at which the fans come on, the range is 90 to 210 degrees F. It can be "hot wired" to the battery so the fans will run and cool down after the park is parked. In can also be wired to the AC. Costs about $35.00 and works really slick. Haven't put one on the Ferrari (it doesn't overheat) but have one on the Corvette (yeah, yeah I know!!!) and it did help.

For those who care, Hayden offers a twin fan assembly with adjustable mounting brackets, part #3800.

Prior to assembly in the car, the lower bracket must be removed and placed in the air dam, and one of the fans removed and slid into place before the upper bracket and remaining fan are eased in place.
Then the lower bracket and fans can all be re-attached.
The adjustable upper mounting bracket fits the stock radiator mounting position just about perfect.

Another note about the power supply to the stock fans. The high amperage supply for the stock fans run through relays so there shouldn't be any problem with the newer fans.
I am still running stock fans on mine and it never goes over 195 in the city on hot days.

I have been using Hayden fans on one of my 308s for 3 years now and my car always runs at half or less temp wise.

I don't have any overheating problems with normal driving, but summer track days really will be able to take advantage of the extra air flow over the radiator... should be able to get a few extra laps before needing to let it cool down.

I still have the stock fans in my 77 and it runs cool. In the recent heat here in NY 90-95 degree days the car runs at 175 in normal driving and if in B to B traffic it will go to 195 and the fans will bring it down to 175 in a few minutes. Just did a new WP and new coolant . When I drained the old coolant out it was very clean with no rubber particles or other debris. By the way this is with AC on or off.

The Ambient temp here was around 98 on the the street probally 102 to 104. The summer heat isn't really here yet. The car used to loose ground at every light I would shut her down when it got to around 220. Now she holds her ground but still a little hot around 205. Maybe in the future will have the radiator looked at. Can you get them out of the car without taking the ac condenser with it?

As a point of reference, my 78 308 GTS had a completely stock cooling system and would not get close to overheating in 80-90 degree days while stuck in traffic with the air con on.

My current 328 had problems traced to the radiator being plugged up. Had it cleaned out, and like my previous 308, works great on a hot day in traffic....maybe not as hot as in Texas, but we get an occaisional warm one...

Ron, it is very common for the 308/328 radiators to get plugged up. Best to have it pulled and "rodded out" and cleaned up first. Otherwise, your other improvements may be for not...

I can't believe how bad those original fans look compared to the Haydens. No wonder my '80 was overheating so bad the other evening in stop n go traffic, here in Texas.

I'm trying to decide whether to switch to QV fans, Haydens, or pull the radiator and have it worked over. My shop told me it probably needed some radiator work. Hope that'll be enough. That's a nice looking installation, Charles.

Charles how hot would your car run in traffic? Have you taken it out in the traffic yet with your new fans and if so what temperature does it run now?

Charles, yes, any pics that show details of the installation brackets/attachments/etc would be helpful.

To get access, did you remove anything other than the front grille?

ok I hope i can answer some of the questions. CFM on OEM fan not sure but not enough for Texas traffic. From past post they said the hayden drew less current than OEM. I used the factory wire no relay. Ground is right there. The Haydens are 12". Now back to the install. I am new to working on Ferrari's only had this car a month. I am used to drag cars. WOW what a diferance. Let's just say these cars are not user friendly. I am used to taking the front clip of in less than 2 minutes. Not here this is a differant story. With that said lets get down to the technical part. You can not seperate the ac condenser from the radiator like the Hayden directions want you to. I installed the push threw conectors on the bottom parts of the fans. I could only get 3 all the way threw. I had to use a snap tie for the fourth attached to the ac coil. Not perfect but just couldn't get that fourth one threw. As for the stock fan brackets i just pushed them up out of the way. didn't feel right about cutting them off. Now the fans are a snug fit but they do fit. As for the the top mounting the fans where to tall i had to make a bracket. It is just a flat bar from one radiator bolt to the other. then drilled holes for the mounting brackets on the fans in the flat bar. Mike i can post a picture of this if you want.

Since the size is different, what did you do for mounting/brackets? I've got a pair of those same Hayden fans I've been wanting to put on my QV, but have been wondering how tricky it might be.

Look cool.
What was the CFM on the old fans
What is the size(inches), cfm and amp draw for each of the new hadens.
Does it stay cooler
Did you use relays, looks like you just hooked them to the old wires?
