The new unit has the newest NmH battery, and the updated wiring bypasses the battery cut off switch. See the post below for an explination on why it was changed. Be very careful on retrofitting another unit. The alarm ECU's are VERY expensive!

I'll see what I can come up with, but nothing came up plugging those numbers in at the Web site.

In anycase, here is their url:

http://sasponline.com/

Give them a phone call in real time and they may be able to help out.

For example an ignition module from an Audi dealer was $365, from Smitty's it was $245.

On the case it says Robert Bosch then "906" in an oval. Those are cast in the plastic.
Then etched in by hand is
980731
F005U00088
177146
Ver. 1.0

The screen shot I posted below is from Bosch's website, so it figures they are made for more than Ferrari, although the programing on the chip might be just for Ferrari.

If you can get a Bosch part number, I have a source that specializes in discounts for Bosch parts for European cars.

Doody, I haven't actually seen the new, revised unit but I have heard different versions. One is that it only has one wire coming out, and it is for the ground. Another is that there are two new wires, one for ground and one for the battery connection. I'll ask the Ferrari technician who will work on my car.

Merlyn, I had spoken to George Vega at the Ferrari Collection in Miami. 305-444-5555, ask for Ferrari Parts, then for George. Price quited was $326.43, for the part number I mentioned below. I don't know if any FChat sponsor can get you a better deal. This was just the place I always call to get a price quote to bargain with the local dealer for a better price.

ernesto - i thought the additional wire connected to the main battery to keep the charge up? why would grounding it make the battery work any better (sorry if that's a stupid question - i'm not an EE type!).

That is exactly like the one I just removed from the 360, part number 177148 Version 1.1. It says Robert Bosch, Made in Australia. $325 at the Collection in Miami. The new version has an additional wire coming out for the grounding.

Since its a Bosch unit I can't believe that no one else uses this unit. I'm going to do a little research on it when I get back from Europe, (going to Scotland for a week of golf)
FYI, the doors lock/unlock and the car starts with siren unit out of car.
More to come as soon as I get some info. Anyone having knowledge of Porsche system I would be interested if Porsche uses the same siren.

Here is a screen shot of the siren unitUpload

the 550 and 360 units were updated. but the 355 was already out of production when the fix happened.

egads - $553 is insane. you should try some of the board sponsors who do parts (and keep us posted).

doody.

Well I just called Ferrari of San Francisco, and there is no help for the 355. He quoted me a price of $553. He said they were $250 in Jan but they have had a price increase. This sucks :-(

I just removed the siren/battery pack myself from the 360. After taking it to the dealer and getting quoted $325.00 for the part, they told me there has been a recall and they would replace under warranty for free. I already did half the work for them anyway by removing it, so they win out. Anyway, you should check if the 355 has a similar recall. They redesigned the part, at least on the 360.

I pulled the siren/battery assy. located above the washer reservoir in left front fender out today and found the problem. The siren is mounted facing downwards per the manual. On the top surface of the siren is a well about inch deep, which the connector plugs into. The circuit board has three prongs, which go through the siren case in the bottom of this well. There is absolutely no way that water cannot get into the circuit board as water is trapped in the well and has to drain down onto the circuit board. I cut mine open and found the circuit board toasted and corrosion on the batteries.
I strongly recommend everyone check this out and waterproof the plug in to the siren. I have not yet decided just how I will do this, maybe packing with dielectric grease, or enclosing the entire plug/ receptacle with silicone. Anyone other having ideas, Im open until I get another siren. BTW, its a Bosch part, but I had no luck tracking it down.
