Dave brings up a good point. The throw out bearing and it's sleeve can get dry/sticky/scratchy. My car has this problem. What I've done as a temporary fix is to shoot a little lube onto the sleeve thru the opening near the transfer gears. This has to be done carefully and with some thought as to what is going on. Study the cut-away diagrams in the service and parts manuals. The problem, of course, is to make sure lube isn't going someplace that it shouldn't. Like all over the clutch plate and disc. I have a helper push the clutch pedal down, whcih exposes a bit of the sleeve. I then squirt some high temp thick 'stay put' type grease thru a thin aluminum tube (from a hobby shop) that is bent to reach the sleeve. Moderation is obviously important. Work the pedal back and forth a bit. This is only a temp fix until it can be disassembled and properly done.

There is no better feeling clutch, than those on a properly set and maintained early 308! The QV clutch has far less "feel", and is too soft for my liking. I, for one, would spend the $'s on a new clutch cable, and spend the time freeing up and lubing all the clevis points. Polish the TOB sleeve and put grease in the TOB holder groove. PROPERLY set and lubed, you would be delighted with how light and smooth the early clutches are.

Seems to me, after looking at the diagrams, that if these various mods are now "helping" the clutch pedal retract, then isn't this reducing the clutch clamping force some?

You may want to try a fix I did on a friends 308.
I added, or extended the length of the stock arm 3/8". could have gone half inch. Will next time, as it helped a lot, without all the extra parts cost. Also, a carefully selected spring can be put inside the stock one on the upper arm for more assist.

Not sure, but.......

I looked at this awhile back and I *think* most/all of your current parts can be modified. The original factory service bulletin covered this.

Note that this modification will cause your T/O bearing to be rotating and slightly loaded all the time.

Jonathan,
You miss-read the article. The Chassis #s are the the cut-in of cars that have the modified clutch mechanism. Lower #'d cars are the ones that don't have it.

With any luck you'll be able to find the parts used.

Thanks David. I checked out the article and it looks like I have too early a chassis number to do it. I guess I'm just going to have a very strong left leg!

Hi Everyone,
There was some talk in the past about converting the linkage from an 'old-style' 308 clutch to a QV one for a better feel. Does anyone make a "kit" of parts or do I have to figure out the parts necessary and order them individually from a QV parts list?
Thanks...
Jonathan
