The 308 does not use O-rings -- just the grommet which functions as the seal. The O-ring is used on the same style injector (which is why there is a groove on the injector) for other applications (Audi for instance). Ferrari chose to replace the O-ring with the grommet for their application. To install an O-ring would be incorrect and may interfere with good injector performance.

Update, I took out the 12mm metal bushing and gromet. It appears that the injector didn't have, at least it didn't come out, an O ring. Is the idea to replace the O ring and gromet or just the O ring? If you have any ideas let me know and if you can answer my previous post that would be helpful also.

Thanks ............. Gary

Gentlemen, I have been following your post and decided to attempt the injector replacment myself. I was in the process of pryed the hex end of the injector out to the recommended 1/4 inch and the whole injector came out. Is this normal? And is the next step to remove the metal bushing since the injector will not go back in the hole?

Thanks for your help, as you can tell I really need it ............... Gary

MIKE
I FOUND MY INJECTOR O RINGS HAD FUSED TO THE RUBBER GROMET INSIDE THE METAL BUSH. I HAD TO REMOVE THE METAL BUSH 12MM ALLEN WRENCH TO GET TO THE GROMET TO TRY TO GET TO THE O RING. WHAT I FINALLY HAD TO DO WAS USE A SMALL CARBIDE BALL BURR TO REMOVE THE O RING AND HAVE A SMOOTH SURFACE IN THE GROMET. I HOPE YOUR O RINGS COME OUT EASLY.
SEVERAL PEOPLE HAD TOLD ME YOU ARE SUPOSE TO BE ABLE TO PUSH THE NEW INJECTOR WITH THE O RING INSTALLED DOWN THROUGH THE GROMET AND METAL BUSH IF THIS IS INDEED POSSIBLE I MISSED THAT DAY AT SCHOOL?
THE ONLY WAY FOR ME WAS TO REMOVE THE METAL BUSH. ONCE REMOVED IT THAN BECAME SIMPLE TO REINSTALL THE INJECTOR AND NEW O RINGS.
IF I CAN BE OF ANY HELP PLEASE LET ME KNOW
BEST REGARDS,
HEATH VAUGHN

Procedure is quite simple ---

1) Disconnect battery.
2) Crack open one fuel line fitting (in the high pressure circuit) to release system pressure and bleed circuit.
3) Elevate injectors from port fittings slightly - just enough to expose a portion of the hex body tall enough to hold with a wrench [about 1/4"].
4) Disconnect injectors from line fittings.
5) Move lines aside to provide clearance for injector extraction (carefull not to over-stress the metal lines).
6) Unscrew each injector and its fitting as an assembly (turning the injector which will unscrew the fitting from the head).
6) Extract (pry/pull with screwdriver/pliers/fingers) injectors completely from port sleeve fittings.
*) Reverse proceedure to install new injectors
**) It is highly recommended to replace the seals in the port sleeve fittings as well when removing/replacing injectors. (The fitting seals pop out from the engine-side of the fitting.)

And yes, after the new injectors are installed, you absolutely will require a fuel mixture and idle setting re-check / adjust.

PS I have new Bosch injectors at great prices. If you need them. Drop me a line : [email protected]

Cheers

What is the process for changing the injectors on a 1985 308 euro? I'm hoping that it is simple enough for me to do. I just had the service done, so if I change them, do I need to re-tune and adjust everything?
Thanks
