Verell why don't you go to a salvage yard an get an old bosch alt. and get it rebuilt. I'm sure that you can get something to fit. Also based on looking at the bracket it should be easy to make one. I've adapted various alts to Jags and volvo's and the only issue here is the pulley. |

Andy, Can't quibble with the going rate for a good alternator (other than the usual about Ferrari parts prices). Guess I'll pass. I'm hoping to pick up an alternator in need of a rebuild for less than $100. Maybe I'm all wet tho. |

Jeffrey and Verell... Sorry if I wasn't clear. I have the alternator with fan, pulley, rear shield and brackets.... as well as the starter and it's rear bracket. As to price, I don't really have either a top or bottom... just whatever we agree is fair. I just made some calls, and got anywhere from $200 to $300 for a good used bare alternator (sans fan, pulley, regulator or brackets)... and are you ready for this Verell... $175 for the cast bracket (105158) alone!!! Talk about unobtanium huh? Sheesh!! So does $300 for the whole shebang sound ok? Jeffrey, how's $300 for the starter and bracket? If you guys wanna email or call... [email protected] 561-514-1620 |

Andy, Having trouble parseing your sentence. Do you have the alternator brackets, or just the starter brackets? If you have the alternator brackets, pls email me your bottom $ for the alternator & brackets. |

Verell, the alternator is PN 106541, and you're close... the parts book says 55A Bosch. If anyone can use it, I spun it up yesterday and it still puts out fine and the bearings feel good. Also have the starter, along with all brackets and heat shields, if anyone needs. [email protected] |

Had my original 65amp alternator rebuilt and re-wound to 100amp. No more flickering lights |

BTW, I'd be happy with a rebuildable 80A unit. Rc, According to Keith Blumel's "Original Ferrari V8" you should have a BOSCH 65A alternator. The QV's should have a BOSCH 80A, and the 328s should have BOSCH 85A units. Your mileage may vary. My '82 Euro 308 GTS QV had an 85A alternator, but I don't have service records, so a 328 unit may have been swapped in at some point.

I have an 82 308 gtsi. Is my alternator a 65 or 85 amp. If its a 65 can I simply bolt in and 85amp. Did the 85 amps start on the QV's or when. thanks RC |

PLS NOTE : TNX, BUT I'm NOT looking for someone to do the rebuilding. I can do that myself. I've got an '82 Euro 308 QV with a common belt for alternator & water pump. (Does this mean I've got an 'early' setup?). Andy, I guess the real question is will your alternator work with my current brackets, or does it have the brackets to make it work? Do you know your unit's amperage rating? I thought the GT4 BOSCH alternators were 65A units which is too light for my QV.

I cannot help you with finding an alternator, however I know a company that does a beautiful job of rebuilding alternators. the place is "All Diesel Electric" in Sacramento. They have rebuilt my alternator, and have done a very professional job. The owner is Andy Grau. He is a racer, and everything he does is racecar quality. (916)372-1390 Andy is an "old school" guy, and he has even given me advice on how to adjust the carbs using a vacuum guage. Highly recommended business. Jay |

early or late? The earlier Bosch units were the same as used on Late Fiat 124 Spiders and early '80's Lancia Beta's. They can be had for as low as $60. Also be sure to use the older 308 bottom and top mounting brackets. This can retrofit on later 308's & 328's as the offset for the crank pulley is the same for all years and the mounting bosses are there as well. I put an old 208 GT4 bottom bracket and top bracket on a 308 QV I'm building with the Fiat/Lancia Bosch alternator with no problems what so ever. The only difference is that the alternator does not have the rear heat shield as the latter Ferarri-Bosch units have. Jeff Davison |

I'm looking for a rebuildable (ie: cheap) 85A BOSCH alternator for a 308. The stator coil must be good, preferably the diodes would be good also. If one or more diodes is bad, then the asking price should be adj. accorgingly. Any of the regulator, slip rings, or bearings can be bad as I'll replace them as part of the rebuild. I have a rebuildable rotor, so the rotor can be bad as long as there's a return/refund option if my rotor doesn't fit (don't see how it wouldn't tho.)
