Well just went through replacement and thought I would share some info. 308/328 racks can develop play and looseness in the steering at relatively low mileage(the internal bushings inside get smooshed up). Mine developed at only 29k miles when I bought it, thinking it only needed an alignment to put things right. Wrong. Well after many months of tracking down a new rack, I finally got it replaced. Here's a few tips: 1) There are two different ones for the 328 based on your VIN, so make sure you get the right one. 2) My mechanic says the the latest racks use different mounting bushings than the originals, so order them when you get the rack. 3) Ferrari UK was about half what everyone else wanted for a new rack ($780 delivered). I suppose I could have had mine rebuilt, but didn't want the "down time". 4) When it came to taking it to the alignment shop, they couldn't get the toe adjusted. "like the rack it too long..." So I went and got the old one and brought to the alignment tech who promptly measures and finds the new rack 1.5" longer than the original one. No problem, take .5" off each end of the threaded portion of the new rack and everything lines right up. But what the hell is Ferrari doing with these racks? Just beware of this... Car drives outstanding now. Behaves like it should.
