Lee -- To be more accurate, "the easily-removed portion of your smog stuff is gone" (not all of it) -- unfortunately (IMO), that's the sad fate of most late US carbed 308-2Vs. In your photo, I believe I can make out the check valve mounted on the end of the front bank air injection manifold -- so like most late carbed US 308-2Vs -- the air injection manifolds and air injection nozzles are needlessly left in place to get fried and obstruct the exhaust ports. At the minimum you should replace the check valves on the ends of the air injection manifolds with brass/bronze NPT pipe caps (they're something like 3/4" or 7/8" NPT -- in any case, it's a standard US National Pipe Thread size so any US-based hardware store should have them). For the best, you'd remove the air injection nozzles and manifolds, but this takes some work/fabrication. I know that I'd prefer to get a properly de-smogged 2-valve and be handed the (preserved) air injection nozzles and manifolds by the seller rather than getting a 2-valve with seriously degraded air injection manifolds/nozzles still on the engine. Do some searching here (on "air injection", "nozzle", etc.) -- send me an email ([email protected]) if you want the referenced information. OK, soapbox off... |

Lee -- Those wires control an "electrovalve" (a small solenoid-activated 3-way air spool valve) that, in turn, controls the diverter valve of the air injection system. Is most of the air injection system missing on your '79? |

In the belief that at least most of the parts on my '79 308 are important, what are these two connectors? Car runs fine... they just kinda dangle near the ignition stuff.
