Scott,

The hole on the lower left is the place for the vehicle hazard warning light.

Like Peter says it is probably the regulator. However if your battery terminals are not clean it will take longer to get the charge to the battery. I would clean them first.

Scott, have you checked the voltage at the battery (at idle and as revs increase)?

If you're not over 12.5V in either case, I'd say its the regulator.

Ed; yes the light I'm refering to is in the lower right. There is one on the upper right which I have never seen on. The upper left is the heater light and the lower left I have a hole where one was or should be.
Greg; yes I can make it go out quicker by increasing the revs, but it doesn't respond well to that. I mean I "try" to increase the revs but it is very hesitant, and feels "groggy" if I do that; press the pedal and it reluctantly climbs but you have to work it, but I can eventually get it worked up enough to get the light to turn out (faster than just letting it sit there). When the light goes out the throttle response is instantly good and everything is great, it just seems a long time to me. Just trying to do some spring trouble shooting and was wondering if others thought I should try a new voltage regulator, couldn't hurt right? I understand I can do that without taking the alternator out?

My G light comes on both of my 308s and will stay on unil I get the rpms above 2000 or so. Then it will go off instantly. Have you tried that?

It sounds to me as though the warm up light and the generator light lenses have been reversed. On my 82 308 the generator light is the lower right side light. Is that the one that is staying on?

Scott

That does sound like too long of a time for the light to remain on. Don't know what "normal" is, but my light will go out within about 1-3 minutes or as soon as I rev it up over about 3k rpm from stone cold and will go out immediately (within 2-5 seconds) when warm. It sounds like a check of the charging system would be a good idea. Good luck

Sorry.. the car is an 80 gts. The car runs great once warm, good throtle response, no misfires, great sound... just basically wondering if that seems a little too long for warm up, perhaps its not charging as fast as it should...just thinking maybe the alt/voltage regulator seem a little slugish or what? Thanks

I've had my 308 for a year now and didn't get to use it much last summer. This year will be different if it kills me. When the car is cold (overnight, sitting # of days) I start it and let it warm up. The G light stays on for a long time... I just don't know "whats normal" currently it idles @ 1500 rpm for like 5-7 minutes before it goes out. When its warm (sitting for 20 minutes after a drive) it takes 1-3 minutes for it to go out. Again just wondering if thats normal or what. From what I understand the car is not only warming up but "charging" up as well... is that correct? And the light stays on till its ready to go? Any thoughts would be great thanks.
