DGS, They are liquid cooled sport bikes, so full fairings. I would guess the engine temps will be similar. |

I didn't mean ignition heat, I meant environmental. The extenders on my 328 get too hot to touch. What would baking do to the coils? My experience with two-wheelers is 20 years old, going back to an old Kaw F-175 enduro, but I seem to remember the cyl tops sitting out in the airflow, rather than tucked into a hot cylinder. |

DGS, "Any idea who makes those plug-mounted coils? " When I asked the same questionJeff told me: 2001+ Honda 600 F4 2001+ HOnda 929RR 2002 Honda CBR 954 "Would heat build-up be an issue with coils mounted this way" A 600 cc bike spins to about 14000 rpm, if there was going to be a problem with heat, I think they would be the ones to find it.

Mark, your friend's setup looks nicely tidy. Any idea who makes those plug-mounted coils? A quick web search gets indications that several bikes and a few cars were equipped with such devices, but no references to manufacturers. Presumably Bosch made the ones that Saab used, and Delco made the ones on the Olds quad four. Quite a few bikes use them, but I've seen no mention of suppliers. Would heat build-up be an issue with coils mounted this way? |

Iam using Taylor 8mm "pro-wire" (high resistance, with "black"(no resistance) extenders, and resistor NGK iridium plugs--works like a champ now--I had to oil up the wires to slide on the weather boots and after a long search I finally foung 45 degree connectors at Car-Quest.--pic to follow |

Hey Dave, Yeah, you're right. There is a gap between the wires and the boots. I've never had a problem with water (apparantly I don't wash my car enough or we don't get enough rain here in Ventura). I haven't used extenders since I had the Electromotive system installed. Electromotive recommended leaving them off, but they do stress using suppression core wires with 3000-5000 ohms/foot. Fortunately, these are usually cheap wires (Taylor or Accel for about $40-60, Magnecor $?). |

Barney, I guess you could. I think you would want to use resistor wires though. It was a bugger to slide the boots over the 10mm wires I have, but 7 or 8 mm shouldn't be anywhere near as bad. The picture on my profile shows it pretty well. A freind of mine (Jeff Davison) came up with this set up using 8 plug mounted motorcycle coils and some gromets, I really like it.

Henry, Very nice. Are you at all concerned with getting water down past the rubber boots? They don't seem to seal up on the plug wires. I used to have a hell of a problem with that until I got new boots that sealed properly. Yours don't seem to be matching up right with the wires you are using. No extenders??? |

Mark Is this an improvement someone might make even if we are using the stock ignition? I like the idea of getting rid of the extenders. Barney |

I'm using haltech stuff, but like Henry I am not using extenders. I bought a set of Accel 10mm wire with straight boots. Then lubed the heck out of them so I could slide on the original covers that plug the valve cover whole until they were touching the plug boots. It's been great, I've run it that way about 15k miles. |

purchased a set of black extenders and installed ngk bpr-6eix iridium resistor plugs--runs great |

After looking very closely at my "red" extenders with a magnifying glass , I have found 4 to have tiny burn marks where it looks like they were arcing thru.--no wonder it was running rough |

When I had my system installed years ago, they recommended that I just remove the extenders all together. I've been running it like that ever since. |

those of you that posted last month about using this type in ignition, wire types and plugs--I am wondering what type of plug extenders you are using--red or black? or aftermarket? I had red extenders with NGK bp6es plugs but have bought a set of black extenders and going to try Iridium plugs MGK BPR-6eix to see how it works. Anyone use an aftermarket plug wire extender and weatherseal? Accel and Magnacor claim to have some that can replace the stock Ferrari parts and will seal tight on the valve cover. |
