The hose from the compressor , first of all on the older 308s is red,it may be black on the later models and runs directly to the horns behind the grille.

magoo/Tom,

FWIW, the new kit I bought had a threaded hole where that nipple for the air supply is on my old compressor. There was no nipple there. I took the nipple off my old compressor, put it on the new one, then hooked the air supply hose to the nipple. Why? I dunno. Why will air supply running through the hose for 3 feet or so be any different than pulling it directly in that hole on the compressor?

Where does the air supply hose on everyone else's car run from? Mine routes to the spare tire area. I just decided to put mine back like it was.

Bottom line is that the new FIAMM kit makes no provision for external air supply coming in through a hose to a nipple into the compressor. There's just a hole there in the side of the compressor.

Tom, That nipple , if I am sure what you are referring to, is where the air supply hose goes to your horns.

I bought a new FIAMM horn kit from JC Whitney. I believe it was $22. It is a kit designed for a vehicle which doesn't currently have an air horn, as it also includes all the tubing, mounting stuff, a relay, horns, and compressor. $22 for the whole thing. I took my old compressor out and put the new one in....exact fit. Used the same old tubing and everything. Horn is like 500% better now.

I will say it is a pain to get the old compressor out. The tubing leading to the nipples is probably quite hard now and difficult to pull off...I had to cut mine off.

Good luck.

Tom, Remove the compressor. Take the three screws out of the top of the compressor and remove the plates, vanes, surrounding the center drive wheel. They may be binding or congealed and are not allowing the motor to turn. I would try that before chucking the unit. It may clean up. Also turn the wheel when you have the vanes out and try to free up the unit with a little non-detergent houshold oil.

Tom;

It sounds like your compressor is on it's way out or is shot. Ypu could get a new Fiamm or I think JC Whittney or even some of the local speed shoops have air horn kits by Hella that should work just fine. The Trumpets should be fine, just the compressor gone.

my horn had been getting weak and now seems to have gone. I was just about to add some oil to it. I looked at the unit and it has electronics running into the bottom and a solid black wire (thick, maybe hose) into the side. There is another nipple on the side with nothing attached to it. Its a fiamm (sp) in an 86 mondial. I also noticed that occassionally the lights would dim at night if I blew the horn previously. You gotta love Ferraris. Any ideas where to start?
