Drew - there should be no current drain with the key off, with the exception in older cars of the clock. In modern cars, the clock and radio will have a 10 year Lithium battery that maintains memory of time and channels. In a Daytona, the clock should draw 50 milliamps maybe.

Hi guys.

Say I have a question here which I've never really understood.

Why is there a current drain with nothing on? Is this just the current drain from the battery through the rubber tires to the ground that is completing the circuit?

Coachi,
Measuring current drain is very simple....
First, you'll need a multimeter capable of reading milliamps...
Second, close all vehicle doors (interior lights off)...and remove engine compartment light bulb is so equipped.

Disconnect either battery cable (only one)
Set multimeter to the 1 amp, or higher scale.
Connect leads of multimeter in series with the battery post and the cable you previously disconnected. If the meter reads a negative value, reverse the multimeter leads...Turn the scale down on the multimeter until you've got a mid-scale reading....Ideally the draw should be 50ma, or less...

I agree with the current drain advice. I've used a variety over the past 25 years, including AC Delco, Champion, Exide, etc. They all lasted 5-6 years.

Coachi - there is not much to a lead acid battery. The only critical mistake is getting one that does not have the correct terminal connectors, and is not the correct dimension. Other than that, it's amp hours. Find the least expensive that meets those criteria.

Very possible that I might have a drain...I will check ma. I hope i find out what is causing the batteries to die. In any case, other than Interstate, what other batteries is anyone using for a daytona?

Coach -- As Jim's post suggests, have you tried measuring the current drawn from the battery with (supposedly) everything "off"? I'm having a vague recollection that it shouldn't be more than something like 25~50 mA or so.

Just a thought - but I was having the same difficulty in my C4 until I found that the trunk light was not going off when closed.

It seems fairly obvious to me that you have a battery drain somewhere. I use Interstate batteries in my Ferraris......can let them sit for months....they fire right up.....and I'm off.

I have replaced far too many batteries in my Daytona. Several Interstate then DieHards...all you have to do is forget to disconnect the battery after a drive, or forget to put the charger on it. Can anyone recommend a better more lasting battery for the 365 GTB/4 ? It would be nice to be able to find a battery where the original battery hold down would work....
