off topic....just for a bit..

Randle!! how've you been? Coming to FFO this year in Asheville? We have to touch base. I've started the Stratos replica I mentioned when you gave me a ride @ Orphan car day a couple of years ago.........

Back to topic....

I doing a dash with some Alcantara (Ultra Suede). Very similar to mousehair, more like real suede and is very color fast. Not too expensive @ $45 a lieal yard. I don't know if you'd be interested as it's not original but for me it's a viable alternative.

My original Stratos dash is covered with it and still looks very good. I did cover my Dino dash back in 1987 and that material started fading badly after a year--in the garage! I have a sample of the newer (c1995) production mouse hair material that has been laying out for years and it hasn't greyed at all.

Bill - my concise answer to your question remains. The mouse hair tends to age and grey even if left in the garage. The suggestions offered by William and Randle are to refurbish after it has turned grey. I have replaced the mouse hair in the Dino and C4, and nothing I have found will prevent it from aging.

I used VHT fabric dye in a spray can on my Dino years ago and it worked great and held up well. I was afraid it would hurt or make the fuzz stiff but it didn't. Try on an inconspicuous place first.

I used suede shoe treatment and a brush for years. Seemed to work pretty well if used sparingly.

The dash on my '73 Daytona, which has always looked nice, seems to be deteriorating before my eyes. I keep it clean and out of the sun. Are there any other preventative maintance procedures I should be following?
