Hey Jeremy, we'd love to meet you guys. We'll give you a call this week. Hopefully I'll have this problem fixed by then.

JRV, thanks for the suggestion. I checked the Frequency Valve and it's buzzing away. I think I'll pull the cold start injector next and measure its flow rate. I think the procedure is in my Bosch FI manual. If I can't find the problem, I'll do as you suggested and have the fuel mixture checked.

Again, any further suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Wow Jeremy, thanks for the confidence in my abilities.

Donny,

I know those sysytems pretty well and thinking about your description, I can't really imagine the cold start injector causing flooding at WOT. Basically it sprays a fine mist rather than actually squirting fuel. Now, it can cause a rich running condition if stuck open, but I doubt it could cause flooding.

First thing to check is to insure the Frequency Valve (little black electronic injector valve on the left side of the FD) is working. When working it Humms. This Frequency Valve controls the FI System Pressure which controls rich/lean running of the engine. After that quick check I go right to checking CO/HC's before the Cat to give relative data to infer a good starting point for further diagnostics.

Took the car out today for a drive on the interstate to make sure it was ready for the track later in the day. I accelerated heavy but not full throttle up the onramp and all was well. While in 4th gear at 50 or so I floored it. The engine seemed to stop accelerating. I backed off the throttle a little and it began accelerating again. Shifted to 5th and floored it again. It gained speed ever so slightly until 90 or so. Again, I lifted the throttle slightly and you could feel increased acceleration.

I suspected a a problem with the cold start injector so I unplugged it and took the car out again. This time it accelerated nice and smooth at full throttle.

Although this narrows the problem down, I'm not sure if it is the injetor or some other component. It is obviously sending too much gas into the intake, but is that an adjustable amount or is it a fixed value. Can the injector fail and spray too much fuel? I would think it would work perfectly or not at all.

How much effect does this injector effect performance if I were to leave it unplugged? (I do plan to repair the problem)

Side note that may be related: the car has a tendency to flood then first started, until the engine reaches operating temp. I normally have to baby sit it and keep the rpms up to 2-2.5K until its warm.
