My 87 Mondial 3.2 has run on Agip semi & Shell Synth, personally I cant tell the diff. My only experiences were difference in oil consumption, with the semi my oil usage was 1 litre (approx 1 quart) per ~ 1200klm (approx 750 miles).

Concerned with this consumption I had Ferrari Sydney completely drain my oil and add exactly 8 litres and measure the levels cold and warm, they used Shell Synthetic and after 1000 klm and 4 mths they only had to add 0.3 litres to bring it back up to the same level.

todd, check the archives on this questions also, a lot of guys read the expensivecar.com guide regarding the oil filter which says to leave the filter on longer, I think most here change the filter and oil at the same time. As far as changing from one oil to another I don't think it makes a diff with the later engines (80s and later) and newer synthetic oils which address some of the seal problems that occured with older synthetics.

if this engine had been run on agip oil from new,is it wise to change to a synthetic based oil. If the oil is changed every year should i let the filter go 2 years.I heard the longer a filter is in,the better its going to work.
