Ijust went through this on my 86 Mondial ,the roter, holding part, that serves as the seal surface could be the proublem . Tyhe bad ones were two piece bonded with ruber ,the ruber fails, and oil gets tossed out in the dist. tike a little pump, the new part is one piece ,and solves this problem,it is a real to fix because the new part has no hole in it for the securing pin ,so you half to remove the cam to index the new part ,it needs to gp to a machine shop for acurat indixing and driling . After replacing THE SEAL IN my 86 Mondial 2 times I found out about this proublem and fixed it with the new part ,no more oil leeks.

I would do it myself since these are so bad to leak you will probably find your self needing to do it again soon enough. I put news in a couple of months and one just started leaking again. I am going to replace it starting tomorrow. I am willing to bet the little sping poped out because it did that a couple of times when I was putting it in the first time.

Hey Charles I feel obliged to chime in here!

The pictures are "take #1" - I hadn't ever done this before either. Not difficult & as long as you're careful putting deal in should rectify your problem. Shop charge to perform? Took me about 2-3 hours but with practice suspect shop would require 1-2 (@ $50-75/hr?)+ parts. And note that (not bashing anyone here, none of us are perfect & I consider part of the F-car "bonding experience") the leaking seal I removed had been installed approximately 200mi earlier by extremely reputable factory folks.

yes

Any projection what a service shop might charge?

Hard to say. Shops vary from price to price. it's pretty straight forward if you follow the steps listed.

reseal it first. Having the oil in there is bad enough. Do the fix right and that should fix the oil issue and it might fix your dropped bank. No matter what, get the leak fixed.

Just to make certain that this is the problem causing the rear bank not to fire, I plan to clean it all up and put it back together (not replacing the seal yet) and see if the bank fires now. Is there are harm in doing this?

The saga continues... I checked the Electronic Ignition Units and both work (the are actually located in front of the rear left wheel near the bottom of the car). Next step I took the distributor cap off the rear bank and it had about 2 tablespoons of oil in it. Is that OK or is there a seal leak? Please advise. What is my next step? Thanks
