George, that is the paint code for Rosso Fuoco, not Rosso Corso... Which brings up the question Ben, As far as the proper color, are you sure that it's Rosso Corsa that you are looking for? There are a few different shades of "Ferrari" Red... My 77 was built before Rosso Corso was created, and is painted Rosso Chiaro. If you have to have the real stuff, I have a few cans of 20R 190 left on the shelf, but you really have to know what your doing to shoot it. What I would suggest is what I do If I need to match paint... Pick your favorite auto supplier that has a pro paint department, pull your Ferrari up outside and have them do a multi-angle computer color match. That way it will be as close to the right shade as you can get, and you can pick the type paint that you need for your application at hand. |

Here is the Dupont paint code and recipe for 1984 Ferrari 308 QV RED (blood red). I'm not sure if this URL will link, if it does not, I can e-mail anyone the picture that wants it. LMK file:///C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/Georges/308%20paint%20codes3.jpg |

Ben, I'm not sure which model you have but my '89 328 does not have a clear coat... it's a single stage paint. Bob |

Even though you can get a PPG or Glasuret paint code....none of the stuff sold for body shop work is really the same material that they use in a factory environment. Also, these chemical fomulations have been changing quite rapidly over the last decade....so whatever was used on your car, almost certainly isn't in production today. Don't worry about exact...just get the color right and use whatever the painter is most comfortable with. |

I can send you the exact paint recipe off the back of the paint sample plate that I got when I had my '81 308 repainted in modern two-step paint (after the laquer was media blasted off). The body shop secured the metal plate sample for me to approve; I think it was actually a 1984 308 QV specific color called Rosso Fusco (sic). Let me get home and I'll post the info on it tonight. |

Ok, can anyone recomend the base/clear (2-stage) variatels from PPG that are 'the good ones' to use? What about primers, and should I use a sealer between primer and base? |

Ferrari has changed paint lines over the years, Glidden, Glasurit, PPG.... They used to use a single stage, but now use a base/clear. |

If you want the exact paint it is Glasurit 21 Line Acrylic Enamel. Glasurit has recently changed their designations so I believe the replacement to the 21 line is now the 22 line. Outside of that any quality paint will be a dead on match. Unless you just want to impress upon people how it is the 'exact' paint used by Ferrari. I am a Standox fan but that is just me. |

Paint gurus- For a work-related project, I am looking for a source for the actual Rosso Corsa paint that Ferrari uses when painting new cars. Is it a single-step paint, correct? Is there a good (hard) base/clear available instead? (I would however like to be able to claim to use the very exact finish that F uses How about primers/sealers? Best! Ben. |
