Damn. :-( I didn't know George had passed away. I really enjoyed meeting him. We spent nearly 2 hours discussing the merits and shortcomings of Boxers. He gave me a card and told me to use it if I ever needed SSB to do any work for me. I never had the chance to take him up on it, but from the quality of work I saw on his Boxer, I don't think I would have been disappointed. He will be missed.

The approach I took was to go to the local parts house and ask to look at their master brake cylinder book. I found a kit that had the same diameter as the Ferrari one. I ordered it and took the rubber parts out of it and put them in my Ferrari cylinder. Works perfect. It is the rubber that is bad, not usually the springs and metal parts. I might be able to find the kit number and name if you need it but this might be pushing it. BTW, I have a new master cylinder and a rebuilt vacuum booster that I will sell you if you want it. Email me.

Ric...not to change the subject, but I recently heard that George Jonas (founder of SSB) passed away very recently. Think it was on the www.focfloridaregion.com website (not sure though). Yes, it was...just found the link: Mr. George Jonas After reading his accomplishments, I was very impressed to say the least -- wish I would have had the opportunity of meeting him.

Thanks guys, I got a quote from white post for $225 plus $20 shipping US. That's almost $400 Canadian. I can get NOS master and brake booster for that much. I'm gonna check out Superformance in the UK. What is the web address?

Jay, Superformance in UK sells a rubber kit for the master cylinder for 17,50 UK Pounds and a master cylinder without servo unit for about 170,00 UK Pounds.
Have a look on their internet site.

Jay,

Way back when I did my 308 brakes, I found the rear calipers leaking at the emergency brake pivot levers. I called the Stailess Steel Brakes, but they were much to expensive for me. The next place I called, was WHITE POST Restorations. They were less than half the price quoted by SSB. They rebuilt the emergency brake levers on the rear calipers, at least good enough to stop the leak, and sleeved the caliper bores with brass instead of stainless steel. This is probably not as good as stainless steel, but good enough imho. They also do master cylinders. They run the following add in Hemmings:

FERRARI brakes, save money and time, guaranteed, better than new. Call us now! WHITE POST Restorations, One Old Car Dr, PO Drawer D, WHITE Post, VA 22663, PH: 540-837-1140; www.whitepost.com

While I've always been sucessful rebuilding calipers, I've never been really successful rebuilding master cylinders or slave cylinders, maybe because they always seemed to be made of aluminum on the British cars I worked on.

Jay are you sure they don't make a kit? Did you try GT CarParts? If they don't they may be able to tell you where you can get it. 623-780-2200

Thanks Ric, but I really didn't want to send them out, especialng to the US. I end up paying twice as much with the exchange rate, plus the duty shipping them back into Canada.

Stainless Steel Brakes Corp. can rebuild it for you.

The orignal owner, George Jonas, is a cool Ferrari-nut (he had a really nice Boxer at one point) and all around nice guy. I think his son now runs it, but nonetheless...

I just removed the master cylinder and found that it needs to be rebuilt. After several phone calls I found that they don't sell a rebuild kit for this application. They sell the new masters but it comes with the booster. I don't need a booster. My question is does anyone know of a rebuild kit that will work or of another master that will fit? I could send the master out but It is expensive and I would rather do it myself to save money. Any help would be appreciated.
