thanks for your help gentlemen. Too the unit apart and found it seazed up, so oiled it up and ran it seperately on a car battery till it ran ok. Has to be said this is a very cheap and nasty part for what is a v expensive car! More at home on a cheapo fiat! |

SW: Joe's on target here. Many of the occasionally used cars tend to do this and in some cases once the pump gets spinning again (after a couple of fuses) they tend to keep running (until the water soaked and put up wet again). But I'm with Joe, take it apart, clean up the bearings, lube whatever needs it, blow the crud off the filter pad and try it again. One of the posts had the fellow removing the rotor altogether to solve the problem. I'd be willing to go to a 20A and then up to a 25A fuse if need be.

(Based on your use of "occasionally" and OK-ish quiet operation otherwise,) I'd give it a 70% probability that a metal wire clip on the chassis has been mashed thru the insulation on the wires going to the air pump motor (Someone recently had a great shot of that on a 308's speedometer sender wiring). |

The ECU triggers the pump. Trace the circuit, check out the solenoid too.

I don't know what controls the pump, but I took mine apart because it made an awful howl while it was operating. I expected to find the electric motor shot, but instead I found the impellar for the pump all chewed up, as if it was being used for a food processor! The pump comes off and apart quite easily, so you may want to take a look. At the time, a new one cost about $700! Best, Pino |

My supplementary air pump for cold start on my 355 occassionaly pops the 15A fuse located in the floor fuse and relay panel. Any one have any ideas what this could be? The manual states that this turns off when the coolant reaches a certain temp ( i find normally it stops after say 5 mins) What controls this pump?
