I add a fuel cleaner to each customer car at the beginning year oil change, along with a very spirited test drive, it keeps things running fine. Then stick to a quality fuel brand and drive the thing as if you were at Fiorano.

OK, I knew when it happened you wouldn't believe it but then I guess you wouldn't believe the nail holes in my hands either.

Bret,

Tourette's Syndrome. But I don't think it's that. More likely the bird jumped on the keyboard.

You know F-J, I dodn't see that until just now. I would have apologized for the double post had I seen it when I posted it. Now if you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have responded to you and added another post. BRGDS,

Hey Magoo, are you trying to show us how to become a F1 Veteran :-)

I agree with the Techron Fuel Systems Cleaner. It is strong as stated and I use it about twice a year. It also helps eliminate possible problems when you are trouble shooting the upper FI system. One tank worth should do it. However, it is not intended to be used for removing impurities from the fuel tanks though.

Steve, It is one of the additives I believe in. Just like Ed says though too much of a good thing can be too much. I think the comment on injector seals and hoses is valid. Too much can affect the rubber in the carb. accellerator pumps also.

Have had many friends use this stuff. And it works :-) Even in California.

If you have a performance problem caused by dirty injectors Techron is the way to go but use it sparingly as concentrations of the stuff can cause damage to outher areas of the fuel ststem such as hoses and internal injector seals. In other words us it if you NEED it and not as preventative maintenance.

Just wanted to add another data point to this (closed) thread:

http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/3132.html

I've been skeptical of additives, but I just had a very positive experience with the Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. Had to get the smog check done on the TR and the O2 sensors indicated it was running closed loop OK, but one of the banks had an occasional idle misfire. Still I thought it might get by -- wrong. So before tearing into it with the wrenches, I just tried running a couple of 10~12 gal fuel loads each with a bottle of the Chevron Techron for ~200 miles. Very noticeable improvement -- solved the misfire, brought up and smoothed the idle RPM, and breezed thru the smog retest.
