Great idea, I just had mine fixed by my mechanic, he ended up have it welded up ($40) then sleeved it with some extra coolant hose. Total repair was maybe $150.

(smile) Not sure I'd call myself a technician here...there are some folks on this list who would trace & rebuild the circuit board!

Figured posting this might keep folks from discarding any old non-functional switches & start considering rebuilding instead of replacing.

Maternal-Fetal doc. And yes, we operate a bit :-)

Carl

P.S. Mr. Handa intend to disassemble & post article on correcting/insulating airbox/ascending cooling pipe interference as you described hopefully sometime in next month.

Nice to know there are some real "technicians" on the list. Me? I'm more a "parts swapper".

I see you are a physician. Not a surgeon are you? :-) Might explain your aptitude at this.

Just a quick follow-up to my article posted in the "parts & service" section:

Isolated problem to fan speed switch (in console). Located a used switch (unsure of origin) with identical wiring configuration that unfortunately on arrival had unsalvageable plastic main shaft (where knob attaches). Otherwise functioned properly.

I then opened both switches, tested original "stacked" potentiometer, and proceeded to de-solder & remove pot with mangled shaft and re-solder original pot to "used" circuit board. Reassemble switch housing.

Amazingly enough, actually worked perfectly when I was done.

Figured I'd post this to let everyone know this *can* be done - sortof "two bad switches into one good switch". Sorry, didn't take pictures but if you need specifics happy to talk you through it.

:-) Carl
