Tillman;

There are a couple of ways to check to see it each bank or cylinder is firing.

First is a KV probe such as Snap on MT2700. This will show the presence of voltage and the intensity of the spark being delivered to the plug.

Another way is to get a contact temp probe and check the temperature of the header pipe where it comes out of each head. You can see total bank misfires along with individual cylinder misfires.

Tillman,
There is an easier way..
While the motor is idling, pull a wire from one coil (with a good glove on, or insulated tool). If there is no change, the other bank is dead. If it dies, that bank is dead. If revs drop noticeably, both are firing. You can try other coil to confirm.
However,
I don't think you can reach 7K in any gear with a bank out. Just getting to 60 would be a challenge.

IMO, the easiest 1st look would be to just put a timing light on a plug wire in each bank and confirm/deny firing...

Sorry for all the posts, but I'm determined to figure out how to maintain this car myself.

The other day my 328 felt down on power. Idle speed was fine, it still revved to 7000 in the lower gears, no unusual heat or pressures on the gauges, but from the seat of the pants it just felt weaker than normal.

I drove it the 30 miles or so home, and didn't see any glowing exhaust elements when I parked it. My "slow down" light isn't working correctly (see other thread), so I can't tell if I'm getting any overheating in the cat that would indicate a bad bank.

I might just be paranoid, but how can I verify that each bank/cylinder is firing?

Thanks
