I would agree also on any car over 10 years old. My 328 radiator was mildly plugged up and was pulled and "roddded out" to clean it up. A power flush would have been good preventative maintanence if done a few years previously. Power flushing a already plugged up radiator is probably going to be "hit or miss" as to being successful. |

Russ, I had mine done at a local radiator shop. Its a simple procedure of just disconnecting the hose from the engine to the radiator, insert the power flush machine and start flushing. The machine first pushes out all the old fluid with a cleaner that flows through the system and then pushes the cleaner out with the fresh coolant. You then button everything back up, bleed the system and you're off to grandmas for icecream and cake. |

There is a block drain on my carb 308. You may want to check and see if there is one on your 348. I replaced the bolt with a sacrificial zinc one I got from Tony Paladino at Modena Motors. |

Frank. Is a power flush something that can be done on a Ferrari by anyone experienced in radiator matters or do you go to a Ferrari dealer? |

I always have had my cars done at a place with a power flush system. It gets all the crud out that just a water hose flush won't get. It cost about $100 which includes the new coolant. |

Don't forget to open the heater core(s) (turn the interior heat on full) while you're at it. Everybody forgets the heater core. So if you wind up with about a half gallon of air in the system, you'll know why. |

just guessing, but i would open the drain stopcock at the bottom of the radiator, open the air bleeder at the top of the radiator and also the air bleeder above the water pump. I would then drain the system, run the garden hose water through the system from the expansion tank and start the engine.... until all water runs clear. I would then shut off the engine.. run some distilled water through the system, then fill it with coolant. Haven't done that with my 308 recently...but have done that with my boxer... same idea..I did use an additive when rinsing the system and i let it circulate in the cooling system to clean any deposits with the gnine running of ourse and the system closed. That seemed to help clean some junk out. Any other ideas from more experienced people? |
