Doug: Yup, that was me! My partner told me that he saw a red Ferrari that looked like my white one over by the house we are currently building, I thought it might be you. Sorry to say I had forgotten your name...

Hope your little problem has gone away!

How many different ECU connectors are there, and where are they located?

David,

Again thanks for the reply, this board is so helpful. I disconnected the battery and fully charged the unit this morning. Reconnected, and started the car in the garage, cold startup surging went away and check engine light 1-4 is gone. Have my fingers crossed that this was a simple problem.

All those drives and pictures the NW chapter posts sure makes me want to get involved.

Another 348 owner (spider)here in the NW had a similar surging problem at all speeds but idle. The fix was to unplug all the different ECU connectors and apply Stabilant 22a contact enhancer (available at VW dealers and NAPA stores). Expensive stuff, but solved his problem. BTW, I don't think he was getting the "check engine" lights though.

Jeff,

Thanks for the reply, I'll try them. I think I met you once in Milton, I just received the car and I pulled into the local Hollywood video store. We chatted in the parking lot, people were freaking, seeing a Ferrari in Milton let alone two.

Hi, Doug: I'm not an expert, but there are two things I might suggest:

1) If the battery went dead, you should "re-initialize" the electrical system. Do you know how to do that? It MIGHT help.

2) The Motronic ECU's can store fault codes and have a self-diagnosis function that may point to a problem area. The stored information can easily be checked, then erased from memory. Sometimes the check engine light is just a "glitch" - I've cleared the memory on my 348 a couple of times, and it runs great!

Ride home night before, thought I felt that the engine was mildly surging while driving at normal driving speeds (35mph). At stoplights car idled as usual about 1000 rpm's. Drove rest of way home without incident.

Next day took for quick spin, check engine light 1-4 popped on. Two things that happened before this event. 1)Left interior dome light on, ran battery to dead. 2)Washed car, usually pop hood and cover engine and electrical above engine vents, didn't this time. Don't spray alot of water there just enough to rinse. Car ran beautifully before, do you think any of these two prior non-normal events had anything to do with this check engine problem. Other thread on 355 engine surging which mine is now doing at cold startup, got me thinking that it had to with the battery going dead. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thankyou.
