it's not just hinges that need lubrication? it's physically moving along the wrong plane(s)?

I drive a 550 (108108) which I think is an early edition, with about 40,000 miles. The driver�s door feels & sounds funny. From the outside the seam is perfect. Closing the door while seated makes a bad noise and moves. It makes me feel as when I hear a scratching on a blackboard. Something is wrong.

Has any other 550 had this problem?
