Paul, Just a thought we forgot to cover before. When you get ready to paint the wheels, deflate the tire and break the bead of the tire on the front side only. That way you can paint the front side easier, get a better job and still keep the wheel in balance. I didn't know you had the tires on the wheel. Hope not to late.

Well, here is an update of my wheel-painting adventure. I chose to:

(1) Keep the tires mounted simply because I just had them balanced and I didn't feel like putting the tires through the stress of having them dismounted and remounted.
(2) Wet sand the wheels (both sides)
(3) Carefully mask the tires
(4) Apply high quality sandable metal primer
(5) Wet sand again
(6) Apply Gloss Epoxy Appliance paint (like you would see on a refrigerator or washing machine. This gives a hard shell that will resist chips.

I will give this a try. If it does not last well I will have the wheels powdercoated the next time I need to replace the tires. Here is a photo.

Paul, I've been visiting the site about every evening to see what topics are being addressed and added-to.

I'm sure that I'll be placing my own questions on the site in the near future!

P.S. I like Paul355C!

Thanks Greg.

By the way, to the other FerrariChat regulars, Greg has purchased my 308QV (his first Ferrari) and I hope he makes it a habit to visit and participate in this site. He will pick up the car from me on Wednesday. Greg is not green when it comes to these cars. He has even taught me some things about Ferrari since we first met.

I am excited for him. I remember how I felt when I brought home my first Ferrari.

p.s. I guess I need to change my screen name. Maybe Paul355C.

So far things are going very well.

I used zinc-chromate primer on my wheels after they were bead-blasted. Satin-aluminum and clear-coat enamels topped it off with brand new decals. Did it all for under $150, four wheels.

Paul, What you are using sounds good to me. I did mine the same way using heat resistant paints. However I let them set up for a day then went back and wet sanded them again after which I used a good "chip resistant clear" over them. I haven't been sorry that I did, no rock chips. It's been 2 yrs since I did mine and they look great. I can't remember what the name of the clear was but any Auto Paint Jobber will have it. I don't think you will find it in places like Pep Boys etc. Also be careful not to use polyurethane clears. They are tougher but turn yellow after a time especially when exposed to heat.

I am in the process of preping my 355 white speedline wheels for a new coat of paint and I was wondering if I should use special paint or something off the shelf. Here is what I planned to do:

Clean and wet-sand the wheels
One coat of High-quality (200 deg F) white primer
Wet sand again
Two coats of H Qual.(200 deg) white enamel base
One coat of enamel clear coat

I would appreciate any advice and if I need special paint, please advise where it can be purchased. Thanks
