Great stuff Peter! I can only imagine the satisfaction. Of course you realize it will be like selling your first born if you ever have to part with it now. Lots of emotional investment. Thanks again for the water pump info.....I've sourced and obtained the parts (right ones I hope), but like Topsy, this job just grew and grew. Didn't think at first glance I'd have to take both cam covers, air conditioning compressor, brackets, alternator, inner fender, etc. off.........but I dood. Yikes! Good thing I've got my private Newfy mechanic who'll come over for the grunt work. Don't let him near the bright work though......that gives me the heebie jeebies. Again.....well done! Rolly |

I agree Martin-checking the oil is tough! Sometimes I do it correctly the first time! That and polishing is the extent of my mechanical skills so I really admire Peter and you guys who really work on your cars. |

I admire someone who actually works this hard on his car. It gives you a much better relation to your car than people like me, who think they are the kings when we manage to check the oil! (and that is not easy) |

Peter: I am happy for you that you made it. And you made it in 2001! Everybody else would have postponed it into spring. Super, super! Christian |

Yeah Peter you could make good money as a Ferrari mechanic on the side... Although everyday coming home from welding all day, working in a greasy old Italian car might not be the highest on your list, although it is a Ferrari. First though like you said awhile back, now the 308 needs to be put into good use into getting a woman that needs a guy with a sexy black car. Congratulations. |

That is fantastic Peter! It is so rewarding putting the time to get to know, work, and improve your Ferrari that it is unbelievable the feeling you get when you get to drive it again and know that it is yourself who made it possible. Congratulations! Arnaldo. |

Since last Thursday, quite alot has gotten done. Friday it rained all day, so it gave me the chance to get my fuel gauge working (which was my fault, I installed the float backwards and it was jamming in the tank. Flipped it over and now reads correctly). I Permatexed the O-Rings of the fuel pump and is dry now. Saturday was my friends wedding, so that day was a write-off. Good anyways, it gave me the chance to celebrate my success with my car (good excuse to get s--tfaced anyways J). Sunday, my buddy came over to help me sync the carbs. My UniSyn tool was useless, so we did it by ear (rubber tube shoved down the throat of the carbs). Now she runs sweet. Both Sunday and today after work, I touched redline (7800 RPM) a couple of times during the runs of these days. My only problem is a stumbling just cracking the throttles open, during stop-light take-offs. I'll try bigger idle jets later. Otherwise, after the mainjets kick in... Hold on! Oh man, is it so sweet to hear her again. Other niggling problems, my oil temp gauge mysteriously came back to life and now reads again. But I'll change the sending unit anyways during the next oil change. I have no choice with the oil pressure unit, its dead. I'm so happy now! With the major work done now, I have many thanks to send out here. To Herbert for all of the rebuild tips and advice. To Steve Magnusson and Greg Rodgers for the Crane XR700 help. To Rob for letting me share this experience on this great site of his. To Magoo for all of those encouraging words. And to everyone else here for cheering me on, thanks! I hope to see you folks out there on the roads now! |
