Curtis, I was going to suggest Nick, but since you have already done so, you are in good hands. |

Curtis, Did you decide to go ahead with the ECU's & test pipes? Let us know how it turns out. I'm considering doing mine. BTW, my ck engine light has not reappeared. Mark |

$2800 sounds more like a Tubi to me! A Test pipe is nothing more than a piece of pipe. They are screwing you big time! You may want to look for an independent Ferrari mechanic up there in Orlando. Try Nick for test pipes. He is the best when it comes to finding parts! |

Try Nick's Forza Ferrari. He's an advertiser on this site and can probably give you the best price. You can do a search on Nick and get a long list of satisfied customers from this group. |

Curtis, if you install "test pipes" to replace bad cats that will solve your problem. However, $2800.00 is way to much to pay. I bought such pipes for my 348 a few months back for $300.00 and paid $150.00 to have them installed. Just run an ad in "Parts Wanted" section of The Ferrari Market Letter(770.381.1993). That's how I found mine. Or, you can check with Ted Rutland at 770.493.8852. I bought some for my 328 several years back from Ted for $150.00. |

thanks for all the advise & the links provided. my next question is if i have ferrari of central florida install test pipes from the headers back will this problem continue. i assume not since the cats will now be gone. quoted price for the pipes installed is 2800.00. is this price sound reasonable? |

It sounds like one or both of your cats are bad. |

FWIW, after starting the thread on "ck engine 1-4", my car seems to have fixed itself. I saw the "ck" light a total of 3 times for brief periods early in the drives, but haven't seen it since in the last half dozen drives?? I still don't understand the relationship between the "check" and "slow down" lights. In my case, the only symptom was the "check" light, with no change in performance. Mark McKenzie |

I think we should do statistics on particular problems. This one seems to be the most common one for 348 engines. Curtis - here is a link to a discussion of this problem. That discussion also contains links to some simple tests which you can perform. http://209.196.179.161/discus/messages/112/2586.html?1000770904 |

Curtis, You need to have your car checked by a qualified technician. Below, please find the official description of this condition and the recommended course of action: There are two of these lights, one is for cylinder bank 1-4, the other for cylinder bank 5-8. They are controlled by thermocouplers (one on each side) which are on the outlet of the catalyst. They light-up when there is an engine malfunction event, which is usually due to a high temperature in the exhaust system. The catalytic converter temp is too high. If the light remains on (vs. flashes (in which case you need to slow the vehicle speed or pull over (keep the engine running for a while)) then you should stop the vehicle and have it towed to a shop. If you continue to run the vehicle when the light remains on, you can cause damage to the catalyst (the engine ECU will stop the engine if you keep going.) You don't want this to happen. |

i am curious as to why my 348 sometimes has the below problem. * the slow down 5/8 light comes on and the car seems to get very restricted. the car seems to start bogging when the light comes on. i have had this happen a couple of times. the first time i pulled over and the light went off and the car ran fine after. the second time the light came on i pulled over again, but the light stayed on. i turned the car off & on and the light disappeared & again the car ran fine. anyone have any ideas. please help. thanks |
