Brad, Your set up may be different but on my GTS the wire on the dash light potentiometer[control] was loose and kept cutting the dash lights off and on. I removed the dash cluster, tightened the spade connector and reconnected. Solved the problem. Just a shot at what may be a simple problem. |

Peter, Thanks for scanning the wiring schematic. I found a nugget of information in there that I didn't see in my 308 schematic. Wire identification, typically denoted in your schematic as: 1,5N denotes a black (N) wire with a cross section of 1.5 sq. mm. When the wire size in not indicated, your schematic says it is 0.8 sq. mm. My 308 schematic would show a slightly different nomenclature. A similar wire would be indicated as: Cu1,5N Apparently the earlier schematics include the symbol for copper (Cu) to prefix the wire size. I'm still not clear on whether the area is the true area of copper, or a specially defined area of copper. A table of wire sizes I found lists specifications for metric sizes and American Wire Gauge (AWG) sizes. Below I've listed the metric sizes and the nearest AWG size. The table didn't specify whether these apply to solid, multi-strand or both solid and multi-strand wire. area---diameter---metric-----area---diameter---US sq.mm-- -mm------gauge---sq.mm-----mm------AWG 0.8-------1.0--------10--------0.78-------1.02------18 1.54------1.4--------14--------1.3--------1.29------16 2.0-------1.6--------16--------2.0--------1.63------14 3.14------2.0--------20--------3.3--------2.05------12 4.91------2.5--------25--------5.26-------2.59------10 Please excuse the dashes. I had to use dashes, to construct this crude table, as the editor wouldn't respect multiple spaces. Rob, can this be fixed? Bill |

Does anyone out there have the detailed wiring diagram for an 86 Mondial. If one of you does, can you tell me what is the color code on the wire(s) and the connector location in the fuse box? I have had a problem with my dash lighs off and on working for a while. The simple fix use to be to wiggle the wires in the box. This method seems to have stoped working and now I need to get a little more serious. Thanks in advance for your help. Brad 86 Mondial Cab |
