Thanks Robert I will check the fans next time it seems to be running warm. there was no leakage thru the overflow. it really didnt get that warm. just warmer than usuall and definately wrong. I will check the fans. easy enough to do.

you are probably right, since then I havent had it get that warm and everything is normal. it is most likely an intermittent connection of the fan circuitry. I will check it out.

anyone ever look into aftermarket fans that are more quiet?

btw. thanks for your responses!

Hello Bill,
My TR also was running hot, my driver's side fan was not comming on, it was a wire problem from the fuse box. On the freeway you should be running under 195, mine run's 180-190 area, when I am in traffic it will push up to 195, that is when your thermostat should kick on, than it should back off to 180 or so...when you get the car home, and it's idling,(watch for 195) listen on each side of the grill's and make sure the fan's are both working! Another way to see if both fan's are working, is pull the driver's side rear wheel off, and inside wheel well, than pull off the wires off to the thermostat, and ground them together, both fan's should kick on if they work!! I just went thru this, hope this help's..Robert

I'd change the thermostat now; sounds like it's shot.

ok all you TR gurus:

after an awesome trip to limerock this weekend, I drove to the cape for a beach day on sunday.

on the way home last night, I noticed my temp gauge was warmed up quickly to 195 deg. (dead center). as I was driving in traffic and on the highway it crept up to approx 200-205 and back to 195. it danced between these temps until I was about 1/2 hour away from home. at this time the needle dropped to where it usually is: halfway between the 195 "tick" and the lower "tick".

it doesnt seem to be radiator related as no mater what speed I was driving it exhibited the same symptoms.

any thoughts? air in the system? I intend to change the thermostat during this winters major service.

thanks,

Bill
