Matt, do your new coils come with resistors to use with your points? (Or did you use them with your old points setup?)

Mike,

I don't think so, at least just heat failure. I think it was faulty construction and heat.

Roland Linder was with us and he said, in all his years of racing, which are many, he said he had never seen a exploded coil. I showed it to him at dinner. the look on his face was priceless.

Heat related, you think?

Steve,

I was running Crane PS60 coils. They were only about 1 1/2 months old. According to Crane, they matched the Magnitti (sp?)

I have a 78 308 GTS

Dual MSD with points acting has grounds.

I replaced them both with the Accel 8140c coils to keep them matching.

Are/were you running a coil that might have different properties (e.g., a lower coil primary impedance) or stock? (Give year/model/ign. set-up too -- your Profile is lacking.)

Has anyone ever had a coil exploded from the inside?

On Sat while driving from LA to Las Vegas, my coil exploded and covered my engine with oil. I even got oil in the dist. I cleaned out the oil late last night and it's fine.

Once DES posts pictures from this weekend I will post a pick of the coil on this thread.
