John, I am leaning toward the oil cooler. Check you oil level. if it's low, it could make the wine more pronounced has the oil thins has it heats up. |

Don- Yes- driver's side. It's not really a whine- but a repetitive "whum" is the only way to describe it. Sounds are tough to describe. The oil is 20W50 and is about 500 miles old. If it is the oil cooler- does this noise come and go? It suddenly appeared after a long trip, and has not gone away. Weird. Thanks for the help, and any more you may have. |

Mike, I notice the lower the wieght of the oil, 10/30, 10/40, the oil cooler makes more noise. when I run 20/50. it's quiter. I am not saying that different oil will fix the noise but I do notice that it is less when i run 20/50 Matt |

Don, your comment about temp and type of oil is interesting. My 308 GTSi has a 'singing' oil cooler but only when engine reaches normal temperature. Are you suggesting that a different oil could cure or at least reduce the noise? I've had it confirmed that the noise is non detrimental but it is annoying. Cheers, Mick |

John, left meaning the driver side? if so it may just be your oil cooler. They wine sometimes depending on temp and type of oil. |

84 Euro QV I drove the car to Limerock this weekend (about 5 hours each way- it was a blast) and noticed a strange rhythmic sound when I got there. I know sounds are hard to describe- but here goes: It seems to be a high pitched kind of "whum, whum, whum, etc" every 1/4 second or so at idle. The sound goes away while reving- or I just can't hear ir any more. Slowly reving the car and it does not seem to change frequency- stays every 1/4 sec or so until it dissapears under the other sounds. Turned on a/c- no change. Push in clutch- very slight change in pitch. Throw-out bearing? Seems to be coming from the left side of the engine. Darin from Boston Sportscar Co. was around, who has looked at the car in the past; and he couldn't figure it out without really diving in. He even called on Sunday to make sure everything went o.k. Thanks for all the help Darin! So I got his cell# in case something happened, and left for Maine. No problems (temps, pressure) on the way home- just the noise remained. No change in the noise. I know this is a difficult question to answer- but does anyone have any ideas? I will probably have the car flat-bedded down to Boston Sportscar so they can take a look and repair. Thanks in advance. |
