Bill, sounds fantastic! Do you park in the lot for Jenness Beach? I had a wonderful dinner with some friends at a small restaurant across the street from Jenness Beach in Rye. Pricey but fabulous food and atmosphere.
I got a used two-post lift by the brand "Rotary" it supposedly supports up to 10k lb. more than enough for what I need. My garage is a 5 bay unit. three in front two in the rear. the center front bay has 15' ceilings. should be enough for what I need to do. have not installed it yet though. need to soon.
Rotary lift, 5 bays, 15 ceilings. Bill, you have it all! Look forward to visiting when you are doing the major. Keep us posted.
I will let you know when I am performing the major on my 348. Need to get it on the lift at Verells to assess difficulty. Have dropped several Porsche motors, a major on my 308 but never dropped the 348 powertrain assembly.

Bill,
A TR & now a ROTARY lift! - Damn, you really do like to go first class! BTW, I can get you the name of the company that installed my lift if you want it.

Let me know when you're doing your major, I'll be happy to come over & kibitz. Understand the TR's dual belt setup is almost identical to the 3x8.

I'm on for a beach run. Hmm, up Rt 495 to Rt 95. Could meet you near one of the following RT 495 intersections: Rt 110, Rt 3, or Rt 119. If you want to take the northern/scenic Route (Rt 495 - Rt 3 - Rt 101) then could meet near Rt 3 intersection with Rt 113, NH Exit 1, or Rt 111.

I'll pass on the smokes tho.

Hi John,
I got a used two-post lift by the brand "Rotary" it supposedly supports up to 10k lb. more than enough for what I need. My garage is a 5 bay unit. three in front two in the rear. the center front bay has 15' ceilings. should be enough for what I need to do. have not installed it yet though. need to soon.

Likewise, let me know if you need a hand also. would love to tear into a 348 powerplant. I am familiar with the layout.

My buddy John Nicosia and I occasionally plan a ride up 495, 95 and up to Rye beach. we try to get get our icar whore friends to go and bring their hardware. our whole purpose is to drive, get to our beach spot, enjoy a cigar, reflect on our lives, watch the sun go down, and head home each of us going our own way. these are memorable nights. sometimes if we decide to, we grab a beer/martini at a cool place near there.

I would like to get others that might enjoy doing the same thing to come along. let me know if you want to meet up for something like this. we usually do this on a warm thursday night.

Bill, would be my pleasure to assist in any way. What lift did you buy? A full 2-post garage lift? I measured the headroom over my 348 in my garage. Due to the low ceiling and AC duct, I have 33. Not much height there.
Contemplating purchasing a portable lift and doing the engine removal in my driveway. Cover the car and move the assembly into my garage to service. Hence the fall schedule. Good weather etc.
348 is running super! A minor oil leak has developed, nothing major but it is in the proximity of the alternator. Have had the top down for 3 weeks now. Wonderful spider weather here in N.E.!!
Sounds like the TR is running great. Look forward to seeing it soon. John

Thanks very much guys, I'm going to make a few calls. I know the car will benefit greatly from having the carbs tweaked.

J...
KTR is in the next town over from me. Know of them (good rep). Have been meaning to go over ther & check them out.

I know of someone in Pepperel who's extremely qualified, many years lead Ferrari Mechanic, more years in his own Ferrari service, now a SAAB dealer's lead mechanic. Don't know if he does work on the side.

IMHO: your best choices (no order implied) are:
KTR
BSC
Paul Glenn
F&MoNE

So far I've done 100% of my own service. (The guy who botched my pre-delivery major doesn't count as doing service.)

my understanding is that KTR is currently owned by Bob Gett - he purchased it a few years ago.

i have had nothing but stupendous experiences at BSC.

Bill, thanks. My office is here in Ipswich, about 3 miles from Paul's shop. Will have to keep in mind if I need service for my 348 spider. Planning to do a major in the fall. When are you planning the major for your TR?
Also, regarding KTR. My father had his 308 serviced there 10+ years ago. I beleive J Geils still owned the company. Good work, reasonable price. Under different ownership now, I think.

Re:Boston Sportscar
I would NOT recommend them. It took them five hours of diagnostics to figure out my car needed new plug wires...I suggested it at the get go.
They were unorganized, said the car was done when it wasn't, had different person answer the phone each time and not know what is going on...
Oh yea the price was ridiculous....

John Tirrell at IFS (Independent Ferrari Service) only deals with Ferraris. He has been doing it for many, many years (he was trained at the factory). His number is 508-238-4224. Tell him I sent you.

He does all my 328 work. However, he is located in South Easton MA (close to 24 & 495).

Boston Sportscar is owned by Ken McKay's family. Ken is former Technical Director of Ferrari North America, and current Technical Director for Lamborghini in the US.

Good advice from Mr. Doody. Paul Russell is very well regarded, located in Essex, MA 978 768 6919. Well worth having them service the Ferrari just to look at the cars in service there. Few years ago saw a silver 959 he was servicing and recently a 250 GTO.
Also consider, dare I say, a Porsche specialty shop. Early 911s had Webers and many fuel-injected 911s were converted to Webers. Best around our area is Autobahn Performance in Peabody 978 536 2667. If you can talk Rick Hetherington onto servicing your Ferrari I would be confident in a job well done. They serviced my 930S some years ago. Good work.
There is also Stuttgart Northeast in Danvers. Have not used them for many years but had a great reputation with the Porsche crowd. Lot of early 911s. 978 777 3077.
Hope this helps.

mjg - do you take your car(s) there? they have come up here before in discussions, but nobody has actually used them. a friend of mine has apparently used them for some jag work, but we've never gotten any actual ferrari owner experiences back.

up in the north shore, birdman, you might check out the restoration shop in exeter - russel or something (with apologies to those folks for forgetting their name!).

call darin mckay at boston sportscar and talk to him http://www.bostonsportscar.com/ - they're not any closer to you (weston) but they're good people, and darin will give you the straight dope.

doody.

I hear the only place to go near Boston is KTR motorsports in Ayer, MA (30 miles NW of Boston).
They have a web site.
Good Luck

Jonathan,
If you really want it "spot on" and you should, then try and find a carb specialty shop with a dyno. My previous 308 had two major services (from two well qualified Ferrari specialists), and while it ran well, it ran REALLY well after taking it to a carb specialist. He found a slight miss in the ignition and rejetted the carbs to larger main jets. Basically he found about 20+ hp I was missing. It ran much stronger after the work. Took several dyno runs and all told ran about $600 for parts and labor, mostly labor for the dyno time. With carb cars, it's the only way to know for sure it is "dialed in" right.

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to have my carbs "dialed in" and don't really want to pay a fortune to the local Ferrari dealer (who is not very close to me anyway). I'm looking for a guy that knows Ferraris that can do this carb adjustment (mixture adjustment and sync). Anyone have any leads? I'm in the north shore area. Thanks.

Jonathan
