Greg, It is basicly unbolt remove and install. Just a question, why wouldn't you exchange out the unit rather than rebuilding the orig one? I would think that would be cheaper. Check with Nick Scianna @ 360-332-7779 he could suggest the best way for you to go. |

Greg, any tips (Do's and Don'ts) when removing the steering rack? I'll soon be taking possession of a '84 308QV and it's steering rack will need to be removed this winter so it can be rebuilt. I'll also be contacting Ferrari of Washington to hopefully get a Chiltons-like list of disassembly and reassembly instructions. Thanks for your help. |

Why would you want it? You loose some of the road feel. I guess anything can be done but I don't think it would offer anything beneficial versus the cost of doing it. |

Greg, just because the bushings are bad doesn't mean the entire rack is gone. Whoever said that probably meant if you could replace the bushings only and get it back in the car you could still have another internal problem. This is a tough one to call since you have the unit out. You might be better off with a rebuilt at this point. Why don't you give Nick a call and ask him. He may know a way of checking it out of the car. Nick's Tele: 360-332-7779 |

Good for you Greg. I have a 308 and I have thought about taking the rack out as a winter project and sending it out for rebuilt or maybe buying a refurbished one and turning mine in as a core. I just have a very slow leak at one of the boots. Not urgent. By the way, I was a Lambda Chi in College (Virginia Tech, 1990) |

My 308 has had excessive play in the steering about 1 inch to either side. I traced it to the ball joint that the boot covers which connects to the tierod. I believe it is the bushing inside there. The problem is that they don't sell that assembly seperately. So, I have to buy a new/rebuilt rack. I have a few questions. I heard that even if I replace the bushings and tie rods that my rack will probably not be in very good shape still. Is this true? I check the rest of the rack and it functioned properly? Also, how difficult is it to replace the steering rack if I purchase another one and swap it out? Has anyone ever performed this? Thanks for the help. |
