The doors in your Mondial should be able to accomodate 6.5" dia. speakers. I put these in my '84 Mondial cab doors without a problem or modifications( may have only had to drill screw holes, but don't remember as was 8 years ago). Everything looks as stock. Replacing the stereo head itself was pretty straight forward as well. Just a matter of time to assembly & re-assemble to run wires.

Your Mondial probably has a similar set-up to my 328. 5.25" mid/woofers in the doors and tweeters in the dash. According to others on this list, the mid/woofers receive a full range signal, while the tweeter signal goes through a simple high-pass filter. Best upgrade is to purchase a quality two way full range speaker for the 5.25" opening. Actually, the opening is a little less than 5" but the majority of 5.25" speakers require less than 5" opening, a few just right at 5". I just bought some new speakers and will try and put them in on Sunday. Just save the parts if you are concerned about originality, but let's face it 328's and Mondials are NOT going to be "concours queens" at any FCA event in our lifetimes. Drive and enjoy! BTW, the Crutchfield catalog is terrific in giving all the specifications on the speakers they sell as far as depth, diameter of opening required, etc.

Also, for the CD player, I find that any of them will work fine, get an inexpensive Kenwood would be my recommendation, they are reliable and sound good. I save the "big bucks" for home audio...

If you don't want to attempt this yourself, a good car audio store can put a nice Kenwood deck and Infinity speakers in your car for $400 or so. Just demand they use their most experienced installer for the job. I did this with my previous 308 and it turned out great.

As some of you know, I just became a new Mondial 3.2 owner. Everything is original including the dash tape deck and door speakers. I want replace with a dash single CD player and new speakers. Any tips on door speaker and stereo install. Also, does this compromise the integrity of orginal?Upload
