Don't forget to disconnect the cable at the battery before you do anything else - a loose positive cable touching ground on or near the engine can do a lot lot of damage. brgds Kurt |

The only way the starter motor will turn is if the solenoid when activated, makes contact with the two connections at the back of the solenoid. One connection is from the positive cable of the battery, the other goes into the starter motor. If you get it to spin then the solenoid is fine. Maybe its the Bendix drive for the gear that's faulty, or it could be the engaging fork is damaged. Either way, it sounds like it won't last long so consider removing it. To remove: Remove alt, remove the postive cable at the solenoid, undo the three bolts on the bellhousing, remove the end bracket on the block and it should slide out. |

Hi, On my 78' 308 GTS when I go to start the car the starter will sometimes spin and make a high pitched noise and then on the 2nd or 3rd try it will start fine. Is this the starter or solonoid? Thanks. |
