Hi Joseph, Thanks for the tip, but mine is definitely from the steering wheel or linkage. I can reproduce it sitting in the garage by just lifting up and down on the wheel slightly. When driving, if I simply place the weight of my hands on the wheel to dampen it, the squeek goes away. It seems to be in the mount behind the wheel that holds the steering column to the area behind the dash, but pinpointing it would be a lot of dash removal! Jonathan

Jonathan, I had a squeek that sounded like it was coming from my steering column over bumps. Long story short, it ended up being the latch for the hood squeeking over bumps. Might give that area a bit of lube. You never know! |

My steering wheel squeeks in the same way. Mine isn't rotational, but up-and-down movement (such as bumps in the road) that causes the squeek. I took a few dash parts out and peeked under there and came no closer to figuring it out. So annoying! -Jonathan |

OK silicone spray took care of the clutch squeak, but I've found that the steering wheel is squeaking about 2"-6" forward of the actual wheel in the "thick" part of the shaft under that vinyl piece (that I removed). I saw no way to get grease/silicone in there without dis-assembly. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jerry. |

I have some experience here. Both my previous 308 and current 328 had a squeeky clutch pedal. Just get a can of silicone spray or other aerosol spray lubricant and use the little nozzle extension and spray the linkage. Easy fix. The steering wheel is a bit more complicated, cause you really need to find the exact culprit. In my case, it was a (apparently) electrical contact very close to where the steering wheel meets with the hub. Actually about an inch or two forward of that joint. There was a metal to metal contact that was rubbing or in my case making a scaping noise. One small squirt of oil, and noise gone. There ARE grease fittings on the intermediate joints of the steering linkage, and those might be the cause, but I doubt it. If there is "play" in the steering, you probably need your steering rack rebuit or replaced, it is a common malady on 308/328's. There are some internal rubber bushings that fail. I just replaced my rack a couple weeks ago. Best to get an alignment and have it looked at by an expert. |

STEERING It's been a few years since I lubed my 308's column(ie: time to do it again!) This is from memory. There are a pair of u-joints in the steering column, one where it goes under the dashboard (remove the small cover). The other is just as it goes thru the floorboards. The lower u-joint has a grease fitting. I believe the upper one does also. If not, then apply oil to the inside of each of the upper u-joint's bearings. I suspect that there's a sleeve type of bearing somewhere under the column switch that also could use some oil. Unfortunately, if the wheel is jerking, it may be too late & one of the U-Joints may need replacing. CLUTCH: I believe that there's a grease fitting on the clutch pedal, if not, apply oil & work the pedal to work it in. While you're at it, lubricate the clutch cable by dropping some oil along the cable so it runs into the cable housing.

Please help me out as to where to lube these two parts to stop this. The clutch pedal squeeks every time I let it out and the steering wheel squeeks and is kind of "jerky". Thanks, Jerry. |
