Rob gained 10hp, but I have yet to see another 328 do that. I'm terribly jealous! My car puts out stock ph WITH a Tubi and K&N. No test pipe, as the car is loud enough for me... |

I saw some dyno numbers posted, I think it was Rob's 328 picked up 16 hp by adding a K&N filter..I never would have guessed that. Maybe it was running a little rich maybe the stock filter is just very restrictive, but the dyno said it worked. The biggest hp increase would beto scrap the stock fi and convert to EFI, that should get you about 30, but will cost around $2500-$3000. HP just isn't cheap. |

Jeff, 20 years ago, I souped up a Rabbit, and one of the common mods was to replace the stock throttle body with a larger Audi 5000 unit. Required an adapter plate, which basically matched it (reduced it, really) back down to the stock opening on the rabbit intake manifold. It did improve throttle response, and probably added 3hp, but nothing more. The problem with any of these mods is you are restricted by the other things in front and behind the air path. In other words you would need to increase the intake diameter of your manifold, but what about the individual runners?, air flow sensor, air intake and filter box, etc.? Then you have possible reliability issues, and non-stock parts. I think if there was a cheap, easy way to hp Ferrari would have done it a long time ago. YMMV. Save your money. Use if for gas, and drive more. :-) |

A shop in Cal will enlarge my throttle body by 20% for my 328 engine, making a new custom throat plate and machining the holding pin to increase air flow. I would then enlarge my intake plenum hole to match the larger bore of the throttle body. This mod would cost about $300.00, now I am not expecting a major increase in hp but would be happy with 10-15 for the price. Also, I talked to a different shop that could port/polish the throttle body for about $100, would this make any difference as an alternative Is an increase in HP realistic or would I be doing more harm than good? Thanks
